Hey this bowling ball learns how you bowl, I would say that is pretty sharp.

Nice statement by Conan. I can't believe they would mess with the Tonight Show like that.

Well he's certainly not the bad guy. That'd be NBC. I've honestly always liked Conan far more than Leno. Leno's only as funny as his writing team and I never thought he delivered a joke particularly well.

I think that's pretty much it. Conan is taking the classy road, and instead of making it a personal fight, decided to invoke the integrity of The Tonight Show and Johnny Carson's legacy.

NBC is the clear bad guy in all of this.

Leno might be somewhere in the middle. I'm not sure he wants to kick Conan off the network, he just wants to have a show, and NBC is only offering him the 30 minute show at 11:35. Others seem to think Leno should do Conan a favor and just go away, so Conan can keep the 11:35 slot.

Obviously Leno is the bigger draw, which is why NBC is trying to work everyone else around him. Otherwise they'd just replace Carson Daly with a 1:30am Leno show.

Keep in mind that Conan was given the Tonight Show back in 2004, when he dominated the 12:30 time-slot. Over the next five years, Craig Ferguson's Late Late Show had nearly caught up to Conan in the ratings, and sometimes even beat it week to week.

Sure all the late shows have writers and people say there only as funny as the writers are but Conan is funny because of the way he knows how to deliver jokes and sketches. I've watched Leno's 10pm show once and did not laugh or chuckle the whole show just painful to watch.

I really hope NBC mans up and says sorry Leno we have to stick to our agreement with Conan if not I will be watching Conan on whatever network he wants to go on which I would mind being FOX since he could start his show at 11 and get a jump on all the Late night shows and dominate. This is my 2 cents.

Fixed that for you.

I'm pretty sure humor is subjective.

Oh, and Leno was never "supposed to" retire. I'm not sure where you got that from.

I think it's more about wishful thinking (regarding Leno's departure) by Conan's avid supporters than any rumoured move by the network.

This is a decision driven by feedback from its network affiliates (and presumably, advertisers) because of lost viewership. I'm one of the few who happens to enjoy both Leno and O'Brien, so a departure by either would be a loss for me. I don't know if NBC's execs believed that they had a genuine successor in Conan for The Tonight Show, but I didn't think that Conan's brand of humour would be suitable for The Tonight Show's main demographic (i.e. folks 50 and over), and the lineup shuffle has proven to be a seemingly calculated but costly misstep.

Touche'. I do agree people have there own perceptions of what is funny and what is not. Obviously from my POV Conan is so much more funnier than Leno. I will say age seems to have alot to do with it as well. Everybody that I know that is younger feels the same way I do about Conan being funnier than Leno where as the older you get they seem to like Leno more. To each his own I guess but what NBC should be looking for is someone that gets the younger crowd to watch after all we are the ones who will be watching when the older crowd is gone right?

Oh and the whole retire thing is from when Conan signed on to take over the Late show from Jay I do believe he said he was going to retire right? It wasn't until this year that he went back on what he said and started thinking about staying on NBC at ten which we all knew was doomed to fail. Thats another thing I don't like about him he caused all this drama before with the Letterman and IMO Letterman is still far funnier than Leno could ever be.

I also recall hearing about the "Leno retiring" thing, so you're by no means alone here.

I think Lettermen is the best, followed by Conan, and then Jay.

Jimmy Fallon is really bad IMO. I do like his musical guests and The Roots being the house band.

Craig Ferguson is awful IMO.

As far as this Jay and Conan thing is concerned, I think it's crap that they would want to do that to Conan. Jay opted out for a new Jay Leno Show at 10, that's his problem and NBC's problem. Leno should have left all together and then they would have never had this problem.

I find it ironic that Leno portrays himself as "the nice guy" (let alone that people actually buy it), yet he's now screwed over Letterman and Conan.

Pretty nice.

NBC is making a huge mistake. Even if Leno's ratings bounce the Tonight show, it'll be temporary. First, he'll have an additional competitor from Conan at Fox. Second, Leno is likely to retire for real sooner than later, and NBC doesn't have an heir apparent. Are they going to give the job to Jimmy Fallon just for S&Gs?

NBC would do well to cut their losses and Leno and stick with Conan. The Jay Leno show has shown that Jay doesn't carry a show "THE TONIGHT SHOW" carries the show. I don't think another network will try to compete with Conan's Tonight Show by carrying Jay. The reverse will definitively be true.

Of course this all goes back to Jay stealing the Tonight Show from Letterman.

I have to confess, I'm really interested to see what happens with Leno back at 11:35 p.m.

Someone above said that the Leno at 10:00 was a "cop out" for Conan having bad ratings, and I just don't see it. That's the way the industry works and that's the way it always has worked. Most media insiders are all in agreement that the 10:00 show was a debacle for the whole night. NBC obviously agrees, too. Hence the change.

At any rate, it will never be an apples-to-apples comparison between Leno and Conan. Conan had to deal with Leno's crappy show at 10:00 p.m., which killed local news at 11:00, which killed viewership at 11:35.

Leno, on the other hand, will get a good NBC drama (Law & Order?, etc.) at 10:00, to lead into local news at 11:00, to lead into viewership at 11:35.

They should put Leno at 10:00 and 11:35 and see what happens.
