I KNEW right when I clicked the link that this scene was what it was going to be. I think Tony Jaa is incredible, both in Ong Bak and the Protector. However, both films are absolutely dreadful and have terrible stories. Jackie Chan films, while not having amazing stories, are much better to me. Is it the best fight sequence? Well, I think you need to clarify and say "best martial arts sequence." What makes the scene great is that it is a tracking shot (continuous without edits), which is incredibly difficult to do and even more difficult to do well (for one of the best, see: Atonement, Dunkirk beach scene). That is what makes this sequence amazing. However, I think it is lacking in that there are no "wow" moments in it. Its strength is in its length and it being a tracking shot, not the fluidity or incredible martial arts moves that are shown. So, I def would not say it is the best. Off the top of my head, I think the rooftop scene between Jackie Chan and two others in Who Am I? is far superior, both on a technical (martial arts moves) and and an entertainment level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjkSC...eature=related The creativity and humor of Jackie Chan's fight scenes has not and never will be surpassed, only imitated. The Protector fight is definitely badass. The first time I watched it I realized toward the end that they did it in one continuous shot. I was all like "Say whaaaaat?" and then I was all like "Oh snap!" and then I was all like "I'm gonna watch this again."
While there are many fight sequences which are excellent, this one is my favorite. It's absolutely terrible. It's one of those "It's so bad it's good" type deals for me. If you guys want a good laugh just click the link and turn up the volume. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxkr4wS7XqY |
