Talking Help me out guys. I've never seen the TV Show Lost...

... and wondered if I should blindbuy 2 seasons.
I love the new Battlestar Galactica show, in fact it's my all time favourite.
House M.D. has the second place for me.
I don't know wether I'll like the show, I can't rent them on blu-ray or dvd, none of my friends have them.
I've seen bits and pieces of the show and found them intriguing, but not enough to make a decision.
Your thoughts?

I personally am a big fan of Lost, and I think the first 2 seasons where easily the best. It's the kind of show that if you miss one single episode you might not ever catch up again. I'd say they are worth a blind buy, but again, I say that because I am a fan.

JB!
I've only seen like 30 seconds here and there and never seen a full episode yet.
I've wondered for such a long time and they are cheap now!

Thanks for your input, so would you say the quality of writing is consistant?
Like Heroes was a cool show but lost momentum imo...

I agree the quality of Heroes has definitely dropped off, but LOST is still there... gonna be one of those shows that after its over... will be EPIC... I'd say go for it... but then again, this is coming from a fan of the show

No offense to Czar, but this comparison is baffling and not applicable at all. Lost is nothing like Blade Runner and has zero similarities.

During the first two seasons of Lost, we would have "Lost parties" and people would come to our house to watch. As of the third season, it became more and more convoluted, the grumbling started, and the parties ended, although my wife and I still watched it. It seemed to get somewhat back on track last season, and I feel confident it will end well - although once things lose their mystery, they often lose their appeal.

I know I speak for many ppl when I say that Lost is the greatest television show of all-time. Its scale, complexity, acting, music, etc. has never been seen before on television and likely never will again.

Not to mention the blus are as good as it gets in terms of PQ, with great AQ as well.

Here's the thing about it, from a less biased viewpoint: the show is not for everyone. Despite having a lot of action, it requires patience due to its complexity and multiple storylines. Grand Bob is right about the aura of mystique the show had in the first two seasons when there were multiple mysteries and none were revealed. As they've gotten revealed in the later seasons, the mystique has worn off a bit but still been highly entertaining, while providing new mysteries.

What I like best about the show besides its complexity is its characterization, seen most prominently in the first two seasons. There has been no other television show that has had such characterization and an emotional impact. Some people will undoubtedly find the flashbacks to be tiresome and that they negatively affect the flow of the show. Others, like myself, welcome getting to know the characters better.

So, it is def not for everyone. I would suggest a rental bc I just don't believe in blind buying. However, the first season of Lost really hooks you in and while I know ppl that have progressively lost interest later in the series, I do not know of anyone who did not love that first season.

Jhiggy, thank you for your very well written post, I had hoped you would give your opinion on the matter.
But I can't rent or borrow them anywhere, so the only thing I can do is blindbuy, I do that sort of thing often, I never blindbuy unless I'm fairly certain I'll enjoy it, so I believe in it
I love and appreciate quality and complexity, so it definitely sounds like this show is something for me, what I'm worried about at the moment...
if will this show go on for like, 5 more seasons or will it end soon?
I'm hoping for the latter.

Good for you Q! keep up the good work.

Avoid it like the plague.

The wife and I went through the entire first season in less than 2 weeks... it was engaging and entertaining.

2nd episode of the 2nd season it all fell apart for us. It's a show full of questions, and those questions have questions, and so on... and so on... It's not like BSG where you KNOW the questions and SOME of the answers and you can speculate on others sure {final 5} but when it's revealed it's revealed and you're all good.

With Lost they answer their questions with more questions... and those questions have questions... and those questions sometimes have answers... but from those answers you end up with more questions.

Just be prepared for that if you do end up buying 2 seasons.

Logan
