SERIOUSLY! My coworkers won't drink water because it taste like nothing and makes them pee too much. I drink nothing but water at work cause they have coolers here.

A lot of people have those stupid little packets they pour into their water also.

Supposedly there is a huge difference between the movie that Mike Judge turned in and what was finally released to theaters, if I remember correctly he called the released version "a jumbled mess" in an interview... by various accounts 30-60 minutes were edited by the studio to "improve it" before release.

There are funny parts, but I agree Idiocracy is a bit messy and didn't live up to its potential. It's no Office Space, but it's fairly quotable.

Doctor: Right, kick ass. Well, don't want to sound like a dick or nothin', but, ah... it says on your chart that you're f****ed up. Ah, you talk like a f*g, and your sh*t's all retarded...Don't worry, scrote. There are plenty of 'tards out there living really kick-ass lives. My first wife was 'tarded. She's a pilot now.

I think the strongest part of Idiocracy is at the beginning when it follows the family tree of the 2 very different couples. Seemed very apt to me.

The first time I watched it was just so painful. I wanted to like it, I generally like Judge's work and I loved the beginning, but then it just got worse and worse and I sat through the whole thing hoping it would get better...and it didn't. But then I spent a day out in the real world and saw way too many things that reminded me of the movie that made me laugh (most likely to keep from crying) and went home and rewatched it and loved it. I never bought the DVD, but I'd get it on blu-ray.

Extract was just a complete disappointment though. Mike Judge and Jason Bateman; what could go wrong? Everything.

This hits it on the head exactly. Idiocracy is not funny after the first watch. Same with office space somewhat. They both get way better with repeat viewings. So many funny lines in both of them. Sadly I don't think Extract has that same thing going for it.

Also Beavis and Butthead was a cultural phenomenon. As juvenile as the show was it had a huge impact. I still hear people use lines from the show.

That was almost a completely identical reaction to what I had. Hated it the first time didn't laugh once, but than after going to work and coming home to watch it again, I laughed till I cried. And have been laughing ever since than every time I watch it. It's amazing how truly accurate this is, and just how unbelievably dumb people really are.

Yeah, I too hated Extract and I thought maybe if I saw it a second time i might enjoy it, so I tried again last week after about 6 months since my initial viewing and actually hated it even more, lol.

Mark my words I believe if something isn't done society is headed in this direction. I can't tell you how many times Ive been turned down for men with half my intellect and no Im not being vain. Its become clear society doesn't value intelligence. How else do you explain Transformers Revenge of the Fallens huge success? How else do you explain populist politicians who woe crowds with meaningless sloguns? "Yes we can."

One of the many reasons I found idiocracy absolutely brilliant

I like the love letter to Generation XYZ explanation...but I'd also say it's a mirror that he's holding up to America's face, daring us to stare at the reflection without laughing at ourselves. The brilliant part of Idiocracy is that we're finding humor in something that we should not be laughing at. Yes, Ow My Balls and Extra Big Ass Tacos sound like ludicrous concepts right now, but the reality is that the realm of the ridiculous is just a generation or two away. I look at Idiocracy as more of a cautionary tale than a comedy. It also works as a horror film, depending on how you want to view it.

Terry Crews and Mike Judge Developing IDIOCRACY Web Videos Centered on President Camacho
Quote:

Idiocracy was unceremoniously dumped into a handful of theaters in 2005. In the years since, the movie has developed a following—not enough to keep Luke Wilson from resorting to embarrassing phone commercials, but possibly enough to justify a spinoff. In Idiocracy, Terry Crews played Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho: “five-time Ultimate Smackdown champion, porn superstar, and President of the United States.” Crews understandably enjoyed his time with the character and has appealed to writer/director Mike Judge to write more for Camacho. It took a few years, but Crews says he and Judge met with Fox last week to bring Camacho back in some form.

Crews told Movieline:

Quote:
“Me and Mike [Judge] are talking right now with Fox about some Camacho stuff. We literally met with Fox a week ago. It’s so cool… We’re going to see what it becomes, but we got approval from Fox to do some stuff. We’re going to start off on the internet and do some small interstitials with Camacho.”
I don’t know what they have in mind, but “small interstitials” feels like the right way to revisit such an audacious character—at least to start off. After all, we’ve seen Crews be very funny in (i.e. the Old Spice commercials). As long as Judge is involved, I am curious to see what they whip up.
