I love both series... but SW will always be better than Harry Potter in my mind.

I was never a big fan of either, though I eventually saw most of the Star Wars episodes. I do catch some of the Harry Potter stuff on TV from time to time and they are fun movies to watch.

I can see them both making way to my blu-ray collection some day.

Oh absolutely, because much of the fan base are kids. Kids grow up to be big kids. That's why we collect stuff. Future generations of kids will see these movies and the ferver will probably last decades.

There are younger people, like my nephew, who loves movies from the 80's. They often wish they were around to experience them in the theater.

Well, yep, I misread that intent of this thread initially. Thought it was refering to the entire franchise, not just the movies.

With the Bond movies, I'm really not surprised at all for the reasons mentioned, those films, for the most part, are pretty old and inflation has changed grosses alot .

Some little things that have very little to the end, as far as I know, Star Wars and the Bond movies never had an IMAX showing either [and those tickets jump up in price].

And here's another fun tidbit, there are more people now that watch movies than did before. Newer titles will continue to gross more and more than their counterparts.

The numbers include inflation adjustments.

No, but he did receive a Lifetime Achievement award from AFI last year. If you missed it, I suggest trying to find video clips online. It was hilarious. William Shatner opened with a song and dance w/ Storm Troopers and Carrie Fisher complained about not being able to wear a bra among many other things!

I think it's safe to assume that quite a large percentage of the movie goers to the Harry Potter movies were adults. At all of the Harry Potter movies I've been to, most of the seats were filled by adults.

The reason why the Harry Potter novels are so popular is because both children and adults are into them.

You would be surprised at the cult following HP has in such a short time. Remember, HP started out huge in book sales first before any movies came out. I was never much of a reader, but because of that 1st HP book and the 6 that followed, my daughters are huge readers. Schools all over the world are encouraging these books, and the kids are reading them, not to mention the following they have with the movie goers that continues to grow with each movie made, and there's still 2 more left to go.

If you check out "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" in Orlando, Florida, Disney blew it big time and lost having Harry Potter theme park to Universal Theme Park:

I personally like Star Wars new movies as much as the originals, and I was huge on the originals back in the day. And I also like HP, LOTR, etc. from todays generation of movies. It's all good, as long as it's Blu!

OK, as a HUGE SW fan (still have my original, first-run toys {Luke w/blonde hair, not yellow} and all the VHS releases as well as DVD and bootleg Japanese DVD), I have to input:

You really can't do an apples to apples comparison until the HP franchise has been completed. In the end, you'll still have to wait at least a couple of years or so for DVD and Blu sales and the movie channel runs before you can get a more accurate comparison. Side-by-side, I think it will be a close comparison, taking into account total sales (toys, games, books, etc.,) and inflation. Either way, they're both absolutely fantastic movies (sorry, true-blu SW fan, and though I hated Jar-Jar, I still enjoyed even #1) as franchises, and I don't like to compare them any more than a parent would like to be asked which child do they love more. It's just not a question you want to even have to think about.

My two cents, anyway...
