I love both series... but SW will always be better than Harry Potter in my mind.

I was never a big fan of either, though I eventually saw most of the Star Wars episodes. I do catch some of the Harry Potter stuff on TV from time to time and they are fun movies to watch.
I can see them both making way to my blu-ray collection some day. Quote:

![]() There are younger people, like my nephew, who loves movies from the 80's. They often wish they were around to experience them in the theater. |

That's interesting TNT, sound like after my own heart (but I mostly like the movies)
"Thou shalt transcribe the book to screen. Thou shalt compress, thou shalt combine, but thou shalt not write new material that do not existeth in the written word without the direct permission of the author. Should that author be dead: Tough noogies. Stealing the proper nouns and writing something new (Starship Troopers *cough*) is RIGHT OUT |

The reason why the Harry Potter novels are so popular is because both children and adults are into them. |

You would be surprised at the cult following HP has in such a short time. Remember, HP started out huge in book sales first before any movies came out. I was never much of a reader, but because of that 1st HP book and the 6 that followed, my daughters are huge readers. Schools all over the world are encouraging these books, and the kids are reading them, not to mention the following they have with the movie goers that continues to grow with each movie made, and there's still 2 more left to go. If you check out "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" in Orlando, Florida, Disney blew it big time and lost having Harry Potter theme park to Universal Theme Park: http://www.universalorlando.com/harrypotter/ I personally like Star Wars new movies as much as the originals, and I was huge on the originals back in the day. And I also like HP, LOTR, etc. from todays generation of movies. It's all good, as long as it's Blu! |

Harry Potter is not going to come close to the Star Wars movies if it's an apples to apples comparsion. Adjusted for inflation all time movies in the US: Star Wars - Rank 2 - $1,172,000,000 Empire Strikes Back - Rank 12 - $646,000,000 Return of the Jedi - Rank 14 - $619,000,000 Phantom Menace - Rank 19 - $558,000,000 AOTC - Rank 82 - $352,000,000 ROTS - Rank 56 - $391,000,000 Potter 1 - Rank 65 - $368,000,000.....wow it beat the worst one of the series. I don't even need to look past that. Obviously these people are deluded thinking Harry Potter is a better franchise because it hails from their own country. Now if they want to say the Harry Potter vs the new Trilogy....yeah HP franchise is probably more popular but overall the original movies were much more popular than HP will ever be. |

OK, as a HUGE SW fan (still have my original, first-run toys {Luke w/blonde hair, not yellow} and all the VHS releases as well as DVD and bootleg Japanese DVD), I have to input:
You really can't do an apples to apples comparison until the HP franchise has been completed. In the end, you'll still have to wait at least a couple of years or so for DVD and Blu sales and the movie channel runs before you can get a more accurate comparison. Side-by-side, I think it will be a close comparison, taking into account total sales (toys, games, books, etc.,) and inflation. Either way, they're both absolutely fantastic movies (sorry, true-blu SW fan, and though I hated Jar-Jar, I still enjoyed even #1) as franchises, and I don't like to compare them any more than a parent would like to be asked which child do they love more. It's just not a question you want to even have to think about. My two cents, anyway... |
