JJ if you're still looking at faster BDP (I assume this meant Blu-ray player) have a look at the Oppo BDP-83. I originally had a PS3 Slim in my main rig and a PS3 Fat moved upstairs but have now sold the Fat PS3 (damn thing was eating too much power) and moved the Slim upstairs and got a BDP-83 for downstairs. Primary reason I didn't just get another Slim was b/c I wanted SACD and the Oppo provides that. It is also receiving a lot of great reviews for PQ/AQ and its fast loading times.
P.S. we never got the pics of your lady friends posing on your system. ![]() |

I had second thoughts about putting their faces all over the internets, lol. This was months ago! Thanks for the bday wishes, chaps. Putting the house back in order now, it's quite the mess. And looks like I'll be able to get the new sub sooner than later - within a month. $700 is a hell of a good sub. This time, I don't care about the sub size. New Sony N460 is in!
Panny 35 is in my sister's room. Damn, I wish I had a system like hers at age 18. Then I hear the Oppo 80 has come out, for only $90 more. Should I exchange it? No, I think - I don't have $90 lying around yet, and not for a while. Besides, I already have SACD capabilities. Subwoofer hunting is hard. It's difficult to even open up the competition to non-online retailers, since you get more money for the buck online. I have an old Bowflex unit that I don't use anymore (can't, really - maxed out on it) - and it'll sell for $800 on Craigslist. The narrow list so far is: -HSU VTF-3 MK3 (my most eager selection) -SVS PC12-NSD -SVS SB12 Plus (sealed, and only 22Hz, compared to 25Hz - I want it in the teens.../no R.Kelly) -AV123 MFW15 - I remember back when this was $599! -eD A5s-300 -Ha. Maybe I should go nuts and get a pair of matte eD A2-300s. I haven't seen Epik have in-stock subs in some time. Are they still in business? I wish I could afford me a JL Fathom. I do want some aesthetics, though. Have to keep the JJ standard. Something in a Walnut or Cherry finish would be perfect. Anybody have any other suggestions? I'm not considering the regular box store brands. Or multiples of anything. Wait, what if I sell the Dynamo for $300? And keep the AA? Dammit! All these possibilities. If that were the case, I could push up to $1,100-$1,200 for a new sub, and that opens up even more options. *#&@#!^@#!^ The options on finishes on the HSU and SVS subs have me leaning towards those the most. With $1,200, that's the PB-12 from SVS. I'd be hard pressed not to go that route. The thing again, is getting any comparative reviews. I could easily ask any of the owners of these subs what they think of them, and they would all tell me that their own subs are the best thing since heavier-than-air flight. There are only a few reviews that compare any of these at the same time, or for that matter, few people who have even heard all of them. I suppose I could go out and listen to other brands - should I even open it up to B&W, Paradigm, Martin Logan, DefTech subs? Size isn't a factor to me anymore (well, comparatively, I only have yet so many places to put one). I just want distortion free low-end extension for movies. The Dynamo has a smidge of rattle when I push it, and we all already know it doesn't go that low. It's speed is its best factor. Now I want 12-15" of driver in a sub. I know I'm going to be happy and get an improvement with whatever I get - I just don't want to lay there wishing on what could've been. ...wait, Martin Logan has new Subs based off the Dynamo?! I didnt know this! ARGH! Last edited by JJ; 01-23-2010 at 10:56 PM. |

I do. The nagging teensy rattle whenever something goes too low drives me nuts. Plus, I always wonder what lower then 25-30 Hz feels like. Yes, I do need a new sub.

It has a tiny rattle when something goes incredibly low. Apparently, from what I'm reading now, all Dynamos suffer from this when pushed too hard. Nothing I can do about it now, ironically. I've had it for about 16 months. It was always there, but I dont know why it never bothered me til now.

I wish I could. There are no normal screws to take apart the Dynamo's driver. It's not even an allen wrench.
