Saw this over at Fatwallet.com in a thread about the BOGO's It got into format war talk, as it always does. they started throwing sales #'s and what not around.

One poster replied with this:

Quote:
Where are the sales reports for Vegetable Thins and Triscuits? I need to know if my crackers are obsolete!!
I thought it was hillarious.

PS, good news transformer after staying @ #4 for 2 days just dropped to #5 on Amazon, seems it's already running out of gas...mwahahahahaha

Again, I say 70/30, tomorrow's numbers being for LAST week. I think it will be strong with all of the catch-up FOX titles.

i think this week will be betwee 65/35 and 70/30, next weeks i thnk will be around the same. Paramount havent been shouting about how many hundreds of copies have been sold, and the zealots have been unusually quite on other forums, so im not sure that TF did sell as many as we all thought it would...

Paramounted has been rather quiet about Transformers sales numbers. I am going to try my first prediction here and say 65-35 for today's numbers and 58-42 for next week.

If BR does win the week I hope the press will cover it as they did when they announced the paramount deal. How it wasn't the HUGE turning event for the format war that everyone expected.

I'll take anything 51% or higher.

Today's numbers should look like 70:30.....I mean if 28 Days Later can't beat out Evan Almighty there is something wrong in this world. Besides that there were a ton of other stuff along with residual sales of FF2.

Next Friday will be intresting though. Honestly I think it'll be 50:50 still but there is always a surpise in there. Transformers will be the best selling DVD I think this year (for my stores at least) and that means most HD owners will buy it. I don't think it will out sell 300 by too much though (for it's first week).

All I know is Transformers better have a really good sales week because next week the sales are going to fall and Blu will take over again. After that HD shouldn't sniff any closer than 60:40 the rest of the year (when Bourne Releases).

I agree 100%. I just asked in another thread how well is TF (HD) really selling. All the major players in my area (Washington DC suburb) Best Buy, CC, Target all have plenty of TF (HD) in stock. I have not seen a single thread at AVMS or HDD claiming TF is sold out or hard to find. Could it be that the sales for TF are way below expectations?

All my locations seem well stocked as well, from what I can see, the SD version is selling extremely well, but not the HD-DVD version. That's just so sad... it brings a tear to my eye. LOL!

i think it will remain close to the same as it usually is.. 60-40...

As for this week, I don't know. No word on how well transformers is selling, but we know the BOGO is doing well in some stores (like Amazon).
I just hope it is wider spread than just a few stores.

For next week's numbers I think it would be hard to imagine more than 60% for HD-DVD at this point. I think it will be somewhere between 40 and 60 for each side.

Sunday did not count towards TF week correct?

BOGO sale started Sunday and carried thru well during the week.

We should have the numbers for week prior and week of.

I asked this in another thread a few days ago and got no answer, but how are pre-orders handled when amazon, for example, dings your account on a Friday or Saturday the week before a Tuesday availability, and then notifies you on that same Friday, Saturday, or even Sunday that your pre-order has shipped?

Obviously, if you get the pre-order in the mail on Tuesday or Wednesday of the week the product was available in the B&M stores, that pre-order sale might very well have counted *as a sale* the previous week since even Sunday sales count for the previous week? Right?

For example, I got Roseanne S9 very early this week, and had my bank account dinged *last Wednesday* and was notified by DeepDiscount *last Thursday* that it had shipped. Even though Roseanne S9 was only available for purchase in B&M stores *this* Tuesday (as was Transformers), clearly it could have been counted in last week's sales figures....

I know that the HD-DVD installed base is higher now then when 300 came out, but not that much higher. At Amazon, 300 on HD-DVD was #3 best seller (behind #2 Blu-ray 300) for a very long time. Transformers has not gotten that high yet and likely won't. So I have difficulty thinking that it will outsell 300.

From what I understand, they don't count pre-orders until they're actually paid for. Meaning that the week your account was charged would be the week the sale was counted in. Doesn't really matter when you pre-ordered it. Again, from what I understand. Anyone out there want to back me up?

On the subject at hand, though, I would have to say I would be disappointed if we didn't remain somewhere in the 60's for TF week. I don't want to give them (DUDers) even the slightest bit of satisfaction that they've gained even one percentage point into the 50's with their precious Transformers...

Amazon sales count when your order is shipped. They are also the only online retailer that Nielson counts so the other ones don't really matter.

Are you implying that some Amazon Transformers orders could be counting on today's results because they may have shipped last week? I hadn't thought of that. Probably not a huge impact though, and possibly negated by early starts of the BOGOs.

My original comment was aimed at all the people estimating 50-50 for today's numbers thinking it was for this (TF) week.
