I really hope The Hurt Locker wins something, like director or even picture!
I also really want Inglourious Basterds and Up In The Air to win a few awards, again, I'd love to see them win best picture, but I'm sure Avatar will win. Personally, I hope it doesn't, but thats just my opinion.

What about everyone else?
I want to see Up in the Air loose everything, not because i think the movie is bad. I just want to see the reaction of that director. I think that guy could explode from his reactions at the Globes. The oscors should hire extra security for this event.

Inglourious Basterds to win as many as possible.

Screenplay is the most important to me as I think it's genius.
Best picture would be a bonus.
It would be robbery if Waltz didn't win supporting actor.

Up for best animated and a nomination for best picture.

I would like to see The Road nominated for a few things too, although it has little hope of winning.

I wouldn't mind Streep, Adams, Kruger or Laurent winning any of the actress awards either.

That's a weird thread though. This one is more straightforward.

If I had my way I'd want "Up" to WIN Best Picture and Meryl Streep to get best actress. I like Sandra Bullock, but it's really not a performance that's anything special. Meryl Streep may have two Oscars but she hasn't won one in 27 years and she's LOST 13 times!!!! Her Julia Child is one of the most entertaining performances I've seen...plus, she's brilliant.

Don't worry, it will--
The Critical Favorite is like the first runner-up at the Miss America pageant: Sorry, you're not going to win, but we'll keep your name as a backup, just in case the one who was going to win suddenly did something publicly embarrassing at the last minute, and we need a quick safe replacement who didn't.
(Going by past examples, eg. "Green Mile" suddenly not looking as good as it sounded on paper, leaving room for "American Beauty" to take it, "Right Stuff" and "Color Purple" having to give up their controversies to "Terms of Endearment" and "Out of Africa", and screeners suddenly realizing that "Born on the 4th of July" wasn't going to be Oliver Stone's prewritten ticket that year, making it safe to vote for "Driving Miss Daisy".)

And thanks to most of the critics' awards "ruining" its mainstream reputation and keeping in the Indie Arthouse ghetto along with "Hurt Locker", Up in the Air has the misfortune to be the Critical Favorite, while Up and Avatar battle it out to see which one is the Populist Audience Front-Runner that usually gets it.
The only scenario of First Runner-Up In The Air taking the award was if it was some "Green Mile" case of the committee thinking they "had" to vote for Avatar, and then got a look at the dopey ol' thing...Which might happen, but the pro-Pixar "Up" faction still seems to be in power as the majority, and that favorite's public reputation is still unsullied as of current date.

(That said, wouldn't mind seeing Jason Reitman throw a hissy-fit meltdown at not being told he's a genius...Geez, he's starting to deserve it. )

I agree with this. Especially the last point: "best supporting actor" doesn't even begin to cover how amazing he was.

Now that I really think hard...2009 isn't really the year for movies.
Ingourious, Up in the Air, Hurt Locker were good; they aren't the cream of the crop when it comes to movies.

Up probably wont even be nominated for Best Pic. By nominating UP, the Academy would be breaking their own rules since they didn't nominate Nemo, Incredible, Rat or Wall-e. So, I doubt UP is getting a nomination.

Waltz should get Best Supporting.
Streep might snag best actress.
Avatar or Up in the Air might get Best Pic. (I want UP (pixar) to win best Picture.)

Avatar will get best f/x too.

I want Avatar to steal the show all together. then there wouldn't be anything left for the rest of the nominations.

Like Foggy, I would love to see UP get nominated for best picture, but I think it will just remain in the Animation category.. shame.

Yeah I know that if one my employees said a major competitor should win a major award I'd fire his bum on the spot and wouldn't look back.
