I know that we've all looked forward to this quarter because we can't wait to get some of the new blockbusters and classic films on BD.

The number of titles coming from now till the end of the year is heavily in Blu's favor (~2:1).

There are several factors in play that will not only add to our lead, but also increase the momentum.
  • We know that new releases are where the most sales volume is coming from. Look at 300 or Casino Royale. On 300 (dual format) Blu beat DUD by ~2:1, but on our exclusives (CR) that's where we really pull ahead.

We already have FF:SS. On the way are Spiderman 3, Pirates 3, Ratatouille, Die Hard 4, The Simpsons, Superbad, and Hairspray (short-time exclusive).
  • The base sales of Blu-ray are much stronger than HD.
  • The carryover effect of each of these new releases is CUMULATIVE.
  • The week of 10/30 (SM3) will still have Sillver Surfer carryover
  • The week of 11/6 (Rat & Cars) will have carryover from SM3 and SS
  • The week of 11/20 (Die Hard 4) will have carryover from Silver Surfer, SM3, Rat and Cars. And so forth . . .
  • There is the impact of the PS3 price drop next month and new BD players and lower BD player prices. This will bring more BD owners into the mix.
  • The number and popularity of our new releases will also pull in more people

This summer's PS3 price drop had some impact. I am amazed at the number of POTC 1 and 2 sold during the Disney B1G1F sale. Also look at the ranking of Casino Royale in this week's Neilsen Numbers. Does this mean there are a lot of new Blu-ray owners? Or could it be that the sleeping giant of PS3 owners who initially didn't care about Blu-ray has been awakened?

Get ready for a wild ride, and to see the HD DVD boys whining!
I agree 100% that this will be an abolute slaughter through year-end. If they can't see it coming they've got their head in the sand.

Why isn't the Kubrick Box Set from Page 19 available on Blu?

Default Any one have any new sales figures since Transformers came out

I am a little worried looking at the numbers on amazon and other sites that the numbers like stand alone player numbers recently are swinging back to HD-DVD. I own 2 blu-ray players so i am for blu-ray. But unless Sony and the other blu-ray players get cost competitive then sony arrogance may swing this back to HD-DVD in Q4. The same thing happened with beta. Any info would be great. thanks.

HD DVD will never I repeat never have more players out there than blu. HD DVD will never win two weeks in a row in sales. They might win one here or there but be as consistent as blu sales are they don't have any chance in winning.

BLU sells more WB titles than hd dvd when released in both formats even with hd dvd having come better special features.......WB will stay neutral which won't effect a swing to HD DVD camp or they go exclusive to blu which will be the end of HD DVD...

90% of the top 50 HDM sales on Amazon this week are BD.

Will Transformers manage to sell 60,000 copies this week? That's 4x what Knocked Up sold. I'm beginning to have my doubts. All stores are stocked, no gloating threads at AVS or HDD about TF being sold out in stores and no press release from Paramount.

That last one is the key... nothing from Paramount is eerie...

I guess we shall see...

Hopefully our sales numbers will surpass hddud during Transformers week.

That would be like a punch in face to hddud!!!

Lets Hope.

Hd dvd fanboys are already worried cause of the 71:29 last week. If they don't win next week they know they have no chance in hell to ever win a week because the BDA will have another fire sell.

plus if hd dvd had a fire sale there wouldn't be that much of an impact since there are so few players compared to blu players. I think we are finally seeing the PS3 impact with the BOGO sale

the bd player sales are low due to the ps3 also. Why buy an expensive bluray player, when you can buy a ps3. also if there is more variety of bluray players then the top 10 doesn't matter, but total player sales. altho hddvd would never include ps3 in their surveys.

Good question.

28 weeks later did 40% more business than Evan Almighty, a major HD DVD new release. 300 on BD was less than 20% behind!

300 beat Knocked Up (out only two weeks) by 30%.

These are bloody awful new release numbers for the few key new releases that HD DVD has. Heck, Knocked Up only managed 20% more than 28 Days Later, a catalog title widely (and unfairly) panned for PQ.

If the catalog doesn't sell on HD DVD. And the new releases don't sell. What's left?

My dad doesn't play games but said if he did get a blu-ray player it would be the ps3 because you never know when a game comes out that you might like.
