Ordering a new BD drive for the PS3 - Blu-ray Forum

Hey, the Blu-ray drive on my PS3 is dead, and I would like to order a new one. From eBay perhaps.

Can I just order any 'ol Blu-ray drive? Or does it have to be a specific one? Is there a number I need to look for or something? How can I know I am ordering the right one?

Take yours apart and match to one online. Not any old drive is going to work. It has to be one that works with the PS3. I would assume ANY drive from the same type of PS3 will work (40, 60, 80, 120, etc). Not sure if the drive from the slim will work in the fat or vice versa.

Not sure. Take a look at it and see. If nothing, don't spend too much on the replacement unless you know it will be good period. Make sure the drive you buy is coming out of a machine that is the same as or similar to yours.
