Default I watched my first Blu-ray movie tonight and.....

WOW! I watched Crank on a PS3 and it really impressed me. I own a 360/HD-DVD add-on and about 30 HD-DVD movies. I sold my Wii today and will be buying a PS3 of my own soon to jump on the Blu-ray bandwagon. I guess I picked the perfect demo Blu-ray movie to watch as my first one and damn it looked and sounded amazing. It's hooked up to a component switch box and using the optical cable. I know I can't get true PCM sound via optical but I selected that track anyway and it really sounded better than anything else I've heard on HD-DVD. Just really loud and clear all around from all speakers. I'm hoping to hit up CC tomorrow and see if the BOGO deal is still working because I need me some more Blu-ray's now!!!

Welcome! This is a great time to buy some of those great Disney titles 2-for-price-of 1. Definitely Pirates 1 and 2!

I just picked up Days after tomorrow. Wow, awesome picture and sound!

What does this mean for you and HD DVD now? If you had the choice between the same movie on both formats, which would you choose? The HD DVD for $34.99? Or the Blu-ray for $29.99? It's sort of a rhetorical question because I'd like to think that the answer is obvious. But, you can still answer if you so wish.

By the way you have your system connected, you're not really even seeing and hearing the maximum quality out of Blu-ray.
  • If your TV has an HDMI input and 1080p capability, for gosh sakes use an HDMI cable! Right now through component you're getting at best 1080i. Granted, it will look good, but 1080p is another step up.
  • If your receiver were an HDMI-based receiver with audio decoding of PCM, use the HDMI and on the movie select the LPCM soundtrack. PCM soundtracks provide 3X (4.5 mbps) the data of sound information of the very best that is capable through the optical cable (1.5 mbps).

If your equipment doesn't have that capability, keep it in mind for the future when you upgrade. Blu-ray is next generation technology.
You'll be pleasantly surprised that you can see and hear even more quality out of it than you do now.

And yes, take advantage of the sale going on now and pick up a few!

Default MY First Time......

Guys, my first time seeing blu was Ghost Rider and i was totally blown away by the picture quality.I have yet to experience the WOW factor with the sound because of not having a reciever speaker set up.
I am glad so far with my sales guys and my decision to go blu....

Thanks for the tips. I knew all that anyway. I'll be slowing upgrading everything to an HDMI only system soon. It's gonna take time. I think it's saying something that I was this impressed and I'm not even viewing it at it's full potential.

Hellboy was quite impressive also. Everything seemed to "pop" off the screen.

You sure pick a good one for your first, alot of other one are good too but as far as pure details, I don't think any other once can beat Crank.
