We know the smoke monster can appear to look like people who died on the island (Locke, Ekko's brother, Ben's Daughter) but Christian seemed to know more about the time travelers than Locke did - and seemed to push Jun to the reborn John Locke to find them.

Christian has also been appearing off and on to Jack since the begining - we've been given no indication that that was Jacob's friend/the smoke monster's doing. On the other hand, Christian was the one who set Locke on the path back to the normal world (and his eventual death).

I feel like I'm either missing a piece with Christian or he is an important key to all of this. Is it possible that he is a third special resident of the island? Maybe one that is playing the other two against each other or knows certain things need to occur? If Jacob and the other guy are angels/demons, could Christian be God?

If the people Jacob meant are coming when he died were the time travelers and Locke/Christian already knew this, what was the point? And is it just coincidence that in the flash-sideways Christian's body is suddenly missing?

Or maybe I'm just reading into things too much.

I really wish they had just given the Man in Black/Monster a proper name last night. I can't imagine why his name needs to be kept a secret. During the scene where he walks out and faces Richard (when he makes the chains reference), they could have simply had Richard say his name in disbelief. It would certainly make discussing his character on message boards much easier.

There must be some reason -- maybe once we learn his name we learn what this is all about, so it's still too early for us to know.

I think you are reading too much into it as the man in black was playing the characters on the island to lead up to Ben killing Jacob.

BTW, it's weird how that spanish promo of the chess board with all the lost characters turned out to be REAL! This is some horrible intricate game being played out.

okay here are my thoughts, first the flight attendant did say he was on the first flight? according to one person that ment 815 not Ajira, yet he was on BOTH!. I think the others know there is a different time line and it did work, meaning he is the Jack from the orignal flight and the "OTHER" Jack is in the Flash sideways, which brings me what "blondie" said as she was dying that yes it worked. So somewhere in the middle of the series Jack and the gang will get everything right to get back on the flight being the 2nd 815 flight.

As far as Sayid it can go either way it may be Jacob but then again we don't know if Jack was so disorientated that Syid's pulse was so low during the healing process and it's still him or again maybe Jacob did take over his body.

Lastly I believe in the flash sideways some how everyone will realize they know each other after everything is fixed back on the island. Hurley can help freckles with money to run away, Jack can fix Lock's spin so he can walk and somehow Sawyer will bump into "blondie". This is all speculation so who knows!!

I do have a feeling Jack will try to make Locke walk again with surgery.

You know one thing, Locke looks really really pitiful in that wheelchair compared to the strong and powerful driven Locke we've come to know on the island. It's really heartbreaking to see this version of Locke.

I have no idea what you're saying.

Cindy was on flight 815 in the original premiere, giving Jack two liquor bottles (not 1). Plane crashed, she ended up with the Others, went to the Temple, etc.

Bomb goes off, we get a flash-sideways.

They're back on the plane, flight 815. No crash.

It was a touching exchange between them. I liked it a lot.

AND it was interesting. Locke talks about losing the "body" not the "soul."

I guarantee that has implications for why/how/who Jacob can "take over", and why/how/who MIB can "take over."

In other words, maybe one can take over a body, while the other takes over a soul...

Obviously guarding the Temple is of utmost importance to their very existence. That doesn't mean they can just neglect the rest of the island. Hence, not every Other lives at the Temple. As for why they didn't come out when the freighter arrived, because it's the exact opposite. Most of the Others were sent to the Temple when the island's security was compromised. That was their orders.

He only knew how to summon it. He didn't know how to control it. (He states this in the end of Season 4).

He probably had 0 idea what it was.

It's hard to keep current on this thread so if my comments are out of date ignore them. First I think the fact that the water in the temple not being clear was a signal that something was in it, I believe Jacob's essence. Second the fact that Jacob gave Hurley the guitar case with the Ankh and the note contained inside well before the temple priest broke it open shows that Jacob had already seen all of the events unfold at least like a chess match with MIB, predicting the moves that would be made in response to each event that occurred.

At times this island feels like Dr Who's Tardis: always more spaces to be discovered. I had forgotten about the Others going to the temple when the island moving was going to start, I wonder if it doesn't change time or if it is that "constant" that Faraday told Desmond about for the Others?

So let's go back further than the Black Rock. There were people on the island way before then and they were, we assume, Egyptian. Jacob and his friend must have played out their entire "game" once with them, then again with the Black Rock people. So is this the same continuing game from the Black Rock still going on you think?

Also, at once point smokie/MIB controlled the Temple right? Because he killed the Frenchies.

Ben was never able to control the smoke monster. He summoned it once when the mercenaries were raiding, but never displayed any control. They later revealed that there was a direct connection from Ben's room to the chamber where the monster supposedly rests. For all we know, Ben simply begged for the monster to come and help, and it did. Remember when Ben went to voluntarily be judged last season? This, after leaving the island and "sneaking" back? Perhaps that was him making good on his end of the deal. Come and help and I'll turn the wheel, or come and help and I'll come see you for my judgment, or something along those lines.

One thing I'm wondering is how much the Others know about the monster. The men in charge of the Temple seemed to know just what was going on when they heard Jacob was dead, and immediately started pouring ash and sending out for help. Richard also seemed to realize who fake Locke was right before getting the crap kicked out of him. But then someone like Juliette had no idea what the monster was and seemed to think none of the Others knew either. Perhaps the knowledge is "need to know" only.

When Ben went for judgment though that was MIB the whole time and he just transformed from Fake Locke to smokie. I think the judgment was nothing but more things to manipulate him to kill Jacob.
