Either of these would alleviate the problem. o_1TrivJxKkjCyDZ1.jpg Or anyone who grew up in the 70's can attest to these. Very succesfull at behavior modification. ![]() |

I just looked at your stand, and now have an understanding of your setup. The good thing is your television isn't in danger from the shelf falling down. You're also fortunate that the shelf didn't break and damage your gear/daughter. There's a reason my TV is so high — it's because I don't want my kids near it. They have full access to the other gear and equipment, but they now know how to use it, and they mind me when I tell them not to do something. On Christmas day, my younger son was climbing on the entertainment center and kicked over my Polk tower (pictures of my Polk setup aren't in my gallery yet, even though I've had them for six or seven months already), and due to the short length of the banana plugs, it made the tower kind of "spin" before it disengaged them from the wall. Then, it continued its spin and smacked the corner of the wall. Now I have a nice little ding in the back of one of my towers. Fortunately no delamination occurred or serious dents happened, but I was internally furious. It's hard to yell at kids on Christmas.

I have disciplined my daughter when I caught her touching the TV screen with her grubby little hands (I could see hand marks on it, but never actually saw her doing it.) Well, all it took was catching her in the act, finally! She was so horrified by how loud I raised my voice (I literally surprised her when I caught her doing it) that she busted up crying and ran to her room. She stayed there the rest of the night, but has never touched the TV or anything around it again. Sometimes putting the fear of God into them is all that is needed.
Now my 4 year old daughter polices up the area in front of my TV stand, and when we have family or friends over, she will make sure no kids go within 1-2 feet of the entire area without my OK first. If a ball rolls over to it, she will look back to me or yell for me to get the "OK" first. I even heard her tell my brother to not get too close to the TV during x-mas. She also told him not to put his drink on my speaker and subs too. ![]() We now have an "understanding" and she respects the entire HT. The fear of God can do wonderful things. |
