Default 40GB PS3 bundled with Spider-Man 3 BD now on Amazon.com

40GB PS3 bundled with Spiderman 3 BD now on Amazon.com

Quote:
The 40GB PlayStation 3 (bundled with Spider-man 3 BD) is well on it's way to the homes of future gamers with Amazon.com now taking pre-orders for Sony's next-generation game system. The website states it will be available on November 2nd; just in time for all of this year's holiday releases.

Listed features include a SIXAXIS controller, 1080p Hi-Def Video Output, Wi-Fi, a Blu-Ray Disc Player, and Spider-Man 3 on Blu-Ray. All in all, the 40GB PS3 has just about everything the other SKU's have to offer at the slight cost of hard disk space. With the 100 Dollar price difference this could be the edge Sony needs in order to dominate this holiday's sales.

That's what I thought at first, However, I don't think that it will be much of an issue for those who have been waiting for this price drop to come out. Hopefully this will bring those consumers who thought that paying over $399 for a true next gen console and standalone (standalone because no HD dud player can touch the PS3's awesomeness) BD player was too much.

This is great lots of people will be buying PS3's this year. As for me, I might buy a 80gb PS3 to play PS3 games because i really don't have alot of room for more than one system. A little off topic but did they take backwards compatibility out to make it cost less money, or is there another reason?

according to gamespot, Sony said it will not save them much money, but they did it so people buy more PS3 games.

There's only one PS2 game I still play, WipEout Fusion, so I think I'll get this model.

I'll use an Oppo 980H for SACD playback.

I already have the original 60GB model with full backwards compatibility. But this should do well for the holidays.

I'll be getting this one too, through the US branch of my family. Can't beat full Region A compatibility!

I don't care about gaming, so backwards compatibility isn't an issue for me. I do, however, wonder about the decreased number of USB ports. Is there any way, shape, or form in which this could hinder my Blu-ray experience? I can't think of any myself, but -- any input?

Unless you enjoy plugging in more than two USB items while watching movies, you should be fine. You can always buy a USB Hub if you need more ports.

and in all honesty i've tried ps2 games in my ps3 and it looked much better on the Ps2 IMO... i dont know why but the upscaling doesnt feel right and looks even more pixelated.. maybe im just spoiled now with my nextgen

Thanks, Truckondo! My three USB ports on the VAIO do seem a bit too tight at times, but I don't suppose I'll be plugging a mouse, an external HD, an internet connection and an iPod into my PS3 simultaneously any time soon...

theres a site that paints ps3's and controlers for you in any color i just dont trust having to send in my ps3 and pay 100$ plus shipping both ways to most likely not even get back your ps3

Sure there is, a big one at that. Especially painful if married or soon to be married. It is called: overspending. So long as you manage this tiny issue, assuming you will be feeding your collection habits often, I think you will survive.
