The Shield has some pretty good action in it. Very short seasons though, max of 14 episodes I think, then it goes down to 10 in later seasons.

I would also recommend The Shield and Burn Notice.

If you like 24, you should give La Femme Nikita a try. It is a remake of the French movie that aired on USA. It was done by most of the people that moved on to 24 after Nikita was cancelled (it ran for 5 years). It had a lower budget on USA, especially in years 3-5, and so it relies on close combat and stronger storylines rather than FX.

I will second that recommendation. If you have never seen it, prepare for one great series, full of action and dramatic tension.

Sons Of Anarchy...good story with action mixed in..
