Default Thinking of making a switch...

Ok, currently own a 360 and I'm thinking of making a switch to a PS3. Yes, I could just have both... but for me, that's overkill.

I'm tired of the "loud" 360... Also, already experienced the "red ring of death" and had to send it back to be fixed, so that's kind of soured me a bit.

But, I do like being able to download TV episodes and Movies and actually use it more for that reason alone.

So, my questions...

Is the PS3 network pretty reliable for online play...? Also, can you download movies and TV episodes...? Are the PS3s quiet...? Do they normally run pretty hot...?

I have a Sony bdp-s360. Would the PS3 be as good... or better?

I'm going to give you my honest opinion, the 360 for online gameplay is great and the Ps3 is not as much. If your not playing online I suggest the Ps3 if you are, stick with the 360. Please don't lynch me for saying this, I love both systems but for strictly gaming the 360 has got the upperhand.

Well, just having a 360... the online play is great. I have no complaints what so ever. That's why I'm on the fence... But, the 360 is so dang loud... and microsoft nickles and dimes you to death for all the online stuff. I'm also fearing the next "red ring of death" moment. Everyone I know who has gone through it once, goes through it again...and again.

True, the RROD is problematic, I've never experienced it, knock on wood! My launch 360's disc drive failed a couple of months ago, so I picked up an arcade version with a HDMI connection. If you get/have a 120gb hard drive you can install the games and that loudness you speak of goes away. Hands down the 360's online service is better. I own both so I can say this without being biased. I will say that the Netflix streaming is better on the Ps3.

I'd say the PS3 is pretty reliable for online play.

It runs quiet, if you have surround sound at all, you better be a friggin bat in order to hear it.

Even with my television without the surround sound turned on I can't hear it over the game that I'm playing.

I recently picked up one of the slimline ones and I've found that so long as you keep it ventilated it runs pretty cool, sure you can tell it's been on by putting your hand on it, but you can't boil water on it like I've seen with some 360's.

Are the HDD still removable on the slim like the older ones?

I do have the 120gb hard drive... the loudness actually comes from the fan, I think? Anyway... I did try the Netflix streaming and it wasn't that great.

Decisions, Decisions...

Did you install any of the games yet? If you're not sure how, let me know, I can walk you through it in a sec.

I guess i am the only one who actually prefer the PS3's online.
XBL is usually full of little kids. And it's free and almost lag free. Unlike XBL too.

are you talking about installing a game onto the hard drive from the disc itself...?

Yes, it eliminates most of the noise.

I like the 360 because you can do a party chat with your friends so you don't have to hear little kids. Also if I'm playing a single player game and my buddy is playing a different game we can still chat, which is a big plus. I disagree with the lag free, every COD match I got in on the PS3 was a disaster but SOCOM runs pretty smooth.

Wow, I had no idea you could do that... post the instructions and I'll give it a try.

How does using your PS3 as a Blu-Ray player compare with your other Blu-Ray player...?

Go into your 360 dashboard. When you scroll, go to where it says play game( whatever game you have in) press Y, then it will give you the option to install onto your hard drive. I like my standalone better, the PS3 was my first player, but I like my receiver to do the decoding. It does upconvert very well though.

I guess the lag depends on your connection. But i don't lag often i'll tell you that. Whatever suits you i guess.

I'm hard wired to a wireless g. I love both systems, but take my word for it XBL has the advantage, thats why you pay for it.

You consider Skype a big plus?

If I'm playing one game, I'd rather be talking to the people involved IN the game rather than people who are {essentially} talking to me via skype.
