SWS has some good acting talent. I like his Stifler sense of humor, it seemed after American Pie his career fell apart but made a comeback with Role Models. I really think he's a cool dude and from what it sounds, he really wants to break into drama. He even admits he knows he's been typecasted and he really proved himself of respect in Southland Tales. He was the best thing about it, but alas the filmed failed because of it's convoluted script.

Haven't seen either of those, but I'll check 'em out. Oh wow that's cool he's admitted to knowing being typcasted. You don't see actors admitting to that type of thing too often. Now I don't hate him as much. lol

Smith is a HUGE hockey fan, so I'm not expecting a bad script from him. Slap Shot is still one of the best sports (not just hockey) movies ever made so I'm sure he'll pay good homage to that.....and won't make a movie like it's awful awful sequels.

This will probaly be good. Smith is a fan of hockey, and Stiffler has made me laugh multiple times (Role Models, and his cameo in Jay and Silent Bob).

He's also got an appreciation for cinema. He says he wants to do a Christoph Waltz type of role in Inglourious Basterds one day and he said this movie is supposed to be like Forrest Gump style.

I wish him the best of luck, but I have no respect for Kevin Smith. He fails to mature as a film maker.

When Peter recently corresponded with Kevin Smith about recent quotes concerning the future of the filmmaker’s career, Mr. Smith said that he was about to announce the lead of his hockey comedy Hit Somebody. Indeed, today he posted the fourteenth episode of his Hollywood Babble-On podcast, during which he announced that Nicholas Braun, who was in Sky High and the 10 Things I Hate About You series, and also appears in Red State, has the lead in the hockey film.

You can check out the podcast here, about thirty minutes into which is where Kevin Smith announces the film’s new actor, and jokes about the fact that Seann William Scott was once set to have the lead:

Quote:
At one point it was Seann William Scott, and Seann William Scott apparently wanted to make a hockey movie real ****in’ bad… So he went to do another one, which meant we were star-less for a while, which was totally OK by me. But then I found so much of my Hit Somebody cast while making Red State, so…

The guy who’s going to play my lead, whose name is Buddy McKraken in the movie, is a fella who’s in our flick [Red State] and his name is Nicholas Braun. He’s this really great actor who I love to death and he is the perfect lead for this hockey movie, for this script, which is based on this Warren Zevon song
.

Smith also says that his Hollywood Babble-On co-host Ralph Garman will appear in Hit Someone (he also has a part in Red State), so that’s another little nugget of news. Kevin Smith says the film will hopefully shoot starting between July and September of 2011.
Source

Awesome news that it found a new actor Can't wait to see this. I love Smith so I'll be there day one, and Braun has been good in everything I've seen him in so far. Can't wait to see how he does in Red State

Kevin Smith Talks 'Hit Somebody'; Won't Be Rated R; Will Be His 'Muppet Movie', Full of Cameos of Everyone He's Worked With

Today Kevin Smith did a one-hour live chat with MTV — his first major bit of non-twitter promotion since Red State debuted at Sundance. Quite a few topics were covered, but a couple of the notable mentions had to do with Hit Somebody. That’s the hockey film the director plans to make next — and also the last film he plans to direct — which he likens to the Muppet Movie, by virtue of the fact that there is room for a ton of cameos. As a result, he talks about bringing back everyone he’s ever worked with (“I’m not even ruling out [Bruce] Willis at this point. I’d duck, but I’d put a stick in Willis’ hand”) including Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

With Smith talking about the film, we’re getting a lot more info. He calls it a valentine or love letter to Canada and to hockey, and reiterates that it is based on a song written by Mitch Albom and performed by Warren Zevon. It is not R-rated, spans the ’50s to the ’80s, and is set in a league of his own devising, so don’t expect NHL licensing. (No budget for that in an indie, anyway.) Smith says the script is at 110 pages now and is only half done. (He calls it “chunky.”) Because it spans so much time, and will feature a number of hockey teams, he’s got room to bring back just about everyone he’s ever cast.

Quote:
They’re all coming back. It’s like The Muppet Movie. you’ve got your core cast, and then a zillion cameos… It’s going to sum everything up. We’ll have a team in Boston, and who do you think I’m going to call? Both of those dudes.
Much more interesting, however, is the idea that Hit Somebody will ‘sum everything up.’ He explicitly calls it “an analogous tale to my time in film,” and is about a guy “who loves hockey with all his heart, but is no damn good at it. Then he gets his shot.” That’s a pretty big deal — an explicitly reflexive narrative that will be his last as a director. He says it will be a meditation of what happens when your dreams come true. Sounds like a much more striking way to cap off a directorial career than Clerks 3 would be.

Check out the full chat, which is being re-run at MTV. It’s a good talk, with the director in very calm, genial mode. If you’ve had any reaction to the big ‘Smith vs Critics’ conversation of recent months, it might be worth your time to take a look at this chat. With respect to some of the tumultuous conversations that have surrounded him of late, he says that in some ways he wanted to “chum the waters,” and kind of stir things up a while.

Awesome news!

Sad to see him retiring, but his last movie sounds like it's going to be a great ride!

Great news, even though it'd be nice to have his Askewniverse characters have their last own film (yeah I know he's done with that part, but J&SBSB hasn't aged well at all), rather than just cameos in this. But, at least it's something.

As long as Mewes makes an apperance I'll be happy. You never know, he may come out of retirement to do a Clerks III if he really feels he has a story to tell. He's always said that. But I honestly like how Clerks II ended everything. I was glad to see everything come full circle and they all ended up where they started.

JSBSB was his fan flick - why the hell would he do that with this? Ugh. JSBSB was probably breaking point for me. I extremely enjoyed everything up to and including that film, but everything after has been meh.

I feel that Clerks 2 is Smith's Godfather II, in that it outshines the original in many ways. But, also like GF2, it should be viewed in the context of the series to realize the full intensity of the sentiments and statements related by the film(s).

That was different though, in my opinion. That was him mocking Hollywood, and at the time I believe it was supposed to be the last Viewaskew movie so he went all out.

With this, I'm sure it would only be small bit parts. He wants to go out on a highnote, with everyone he's worked with. And I like that to be honest, I think it's actually a pretty cool idea. I'm going to miss him making movies, but as long as he goes out on top with a great film, I'll be happy. LD

That's a great way to put it. I'd never thought about it that way before. But it's definitely his Godfather II for the Viewaskew movies, and you definitely do need to see the others to get it. And I do agree that it's better than the first one, and that's coming from someone who loves all the viewaskew movies, especially Clerks, (Still waiting for Mallrats on blu-ray! ) because it was so different.

Very excited for these. Red State was absolutely brilliant, and I already have a feeling Hit Somebody will be even better! I can't wait to see what Smith turns out!
