discussion isnt always allowed on some forums though, which is kind of the point of the thread i think. Go to AVF and start a post called....'paramount, faking the figures?' and see how long it lasts

Is it not about how such issues are approached, I'm not sure if Paramount have used shipped figures or over the counter sales figures on their press release, I questioned the SPHE press release figures on Casino Royal in regards to whether they where using shipped or over the counter sales figures, and to honest I tempted to say Paramount have pulled the same trick as SPHE

Its unfortunate that BS still seems to be debated more on forums like this one, AVS and AVF as opposed to people actually getting some hard facts and actually debating there relevance, but why let facts get in the way of arguing about a heap of BS....

Bingo McPhee why should I spend my time arguing the toss with you here when I wasn’t afforded the privilege at AVF? All you're going to do is prove one thing, we at Blu-ray.com have a discussion forum where as you at AVF have a very narrow minded girls club where debate is locked and the men reported and banned.

It makes me laugh every time I see a thread locked on AVF and thank god I'm not apart of it. Today was a good example....

The Micheal Bay thread. (removed linky)

Well at least it survived three pages.

You see, reading that thread there are those that don't want to debate the format war because they know HD-DVD comes out the loser every time.

Those that want an adult debate come here, like you have, or go to AVS. I see lots of AVF members there all the time. If AVF is the best forum in the world, why are so many members over there? Maybe they can't stand the editorial going on at AVF and enjoy some freedom of discussion.

As for me using the world troll, read my posts I hardly ever used the word while at AVF. In fact I never said such things as Red Ants, HD-DUD or HD-DVD fanbois. Believe me, I was on my best behavior.

So AVF is the way it is because?

1/ Lazy modding?

2/ Pro-HD-DVD agenda?

3/ It’s no longer a discussions forums?

The choice is yours.

OMG you've almost described AVF down to a T.

This should be added to the AVF forum rules...

Any Blu-ray supporter you feel as being bigoted or who's mind is closed off to HD-DVD should be reported. A HD-DVD modderator will be along swiftly to close the thread and suspend the poster for trolling.

you did and you were correct, but i dont think you will get a warm reception for saying that in a thread there..(i havent been in hd media forum there for weeks so there may be threads on this already)

Look at how the Transformers thread...

TRANSFORMERS Best-Selling High Definition Title Day One/Week One for Either Format

...is now 5 pages long.

I thought all sales threads were banned, at least they were when I was there? Or are they only banned when Blu-ray is on top?

Now tell me AVF has no bias.

Now there's a suprise, no sales/format war discussion.............unless it's pro HD-DVD I guess.

I wonder what will happen to that thread if Paramounts figures don't add up on Friday?

With the incessant chest-beating from Pecker and his pals on the Transformers thread, it will indeed be highly amusing if Paramount's figures don't add up on Friday.

If it wasn't illegal to kill fanboys then then Avforums would be a quiet place. The PS3 and HD movies section would be a proper place for discussion without X360 and HD DVD fanboys ruining everything like they normally do.

Let me guess, it's the comeback blah, blah, blah.........let's ignore the fact it would sell 2-1 better on Blu-ray!

Sorry, but his predictions etc. lost credibility long ago.

According to one of his many predictions HD-DVD should have taken over the software lead around Heroes' release, and marched on, lol.

Expect lots of Nielson threads if HD-DVD wins the week, unfortunately similar threads are missing or locked for 99% of the weeks when Blu-ray wins!

It's unfortunate both AVF and AVS are now effectively HD-DVD forums.

I love the red ant claim that AVS is unbiased. Lets see what Pentonman said about it.

Amir is a MS employee and he officially represented AVS. Thats unbiased for you.

Reasonable points normally provoke a reasonable response in my book..

I really don't believe the bias you discuss is actually as bad as you see it, the format of choice for this forums has a lot going for it at the moment, the encoding is getting better on disc, generally the audio is better (I like uncompressed PCM!) and whilst (takes life in own hands) the interactive elements are not up to HD-DVD yet, I'm sure it will come in time.

Both formats have flaws and as misguided as Pecker somtimes is on the HD-DVD side the same can be said for some supporters on the BD side, outlandish claims to grab headlines from both sides that achieve bugger all apart for winding people up.

I can't defend AVS because I never check it out to be honest, I lost interest there when all the USA based posters where sticking in the boot on the HD plans for Europe and kept inferring our HD plans where crap and how 1080p was where it was at, I'm in Chicago a few weeks later, any 1080p broadasts...nope, any 1080p displays...nope...hey these guys love there vaporware !

AVF is not in my opinion bias either way, its the attitude of the posters that get threads closed and not forum topics IMHO...

I'm sure some may not agree, I've no issue with that, its just my opinion

Not sure that you should be allowed to post in this thread, Retronana. With opinions of that sort, even AVF can't possibly have exiled you.

Best regards, Nick

This was certainly the case in the old format war thread in the hardware section, everyone overstepped the mark there.

Recent threads in the HD movie section are very different, they are allowed to run until someone chimes in from the Blu-ray side and puts forward alternative views.

Even when backed by facts and links these threads were often locked, as obviously debate ensued, rather than the one sided 'Let's knock Blu-ray'/'Pat HD-DVD on the back' norm.

I think Retronana should post a sales threads when the Spiderman Trilogy results come in with this title...

Spiderman Best-Selling High Definition Title Day One/Week One for Either Format

First line should be this...

'Yeah i know there are losts of Spiderman threads, however this is huge news.' tagged with a smiley thumbs up.

Last line after Sony's press release should be this...

'Yes, i like.' tagged with a big clap hands smilely.

Then see how quick the thread gets closed. Lets face it if I posted that it wouldn't last more than two pages before it was closed and I reported for trolling.

By the way that's the exactly format as the Transformers thread at AVF.

Greg only closes the thread when people question the validity of 190,000 units be shipped or sold.

Oh well. How much more evidence do we need to put forward before people stop coming here defending this rubbish?

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Transformers actually sold 115,000 and lost the week to Blu-Ray.

I wonder how his Royal Peckerness will spin this one.

So, who's going to start a thread at AVF?

On the Spiderman front, generally the UK DVD sales on this title have been below expectations AFAIK, I spoke to buyer on Tuesday and he was pretty downbeat about it, to quote him (and I don't deal with feature film product so don't shoot me down if I'm wrong !) he said it was the first film to gross more than 30 Million at Box Office in the UK and sold less than 600K DVD sales week 1, Casino Royal sold 1.6 Million units week 1 in the UK FYI.

If this is true (I need to check this information), why has Spiderman 3 performed under par in the UK, two reasons I believe.

1) Last week the publishers of the official UK DVD charts announced a change in the way the chart s structured, to date date the chart has been based on unit sales and as from last week the net over the counter revenue became a factor, why does this matter... UK Supermarkets have been selling new release titles at below cost to gain market share (Asda and Tesco have nearly 60% on AAA Hollywood new release DVD's), I would assume because the revenue is now a factor in the chart that this then exposes the actual market shares by £ and therefore supermarkets have just lost a load of market share on that basis.

2) Because of the above, supermarkets didn't want to price cut on Spiderman 3 week one (no longer a market share gain), they ordered less of this title for week 1, and as a knock on effect SPHE didn't offer masses of coop marketing support to the supermarkets for TV adverts and the impact was lower sales, I don't remember any retailer adverts for Spiderman 3 in the UK.

This is likely to effect every major DVD release in the UK from now on IMHO.

The BD sales in the UK may have been hit as consequence, again I'll confirm later (if I get time)

Looks like we're going to find out!

HMM reporting 51:49 to Blu-ray. Transformers failed to swing it for HD DVD.

Anyone like to try posting that over at AVF?
