I'm confident it'll hit $60 before release day (or at the end of release day at the latest).

If not, I'll cancel my pre-order before it ships and wait for that price point.

I tried watching the DVDs the other day (the EE versions) and there were so horribly loaded with MPEG noise I almost threw up. Blu-ray has spoiled me... and now I can't go back! Having danced at the 1080p ball I just can't go back to peddling 480p MPEG2 ever again (my fair lady movie reference).

So, can someone please explain the difference with all these case options? What do they look like? any photos or examples of other sets in the same type of cases?
Why do people like steelbooks over conventional packaging?

Maybe they eventually melt all that steel together then sell $$ it.

I was going to wait for the EEs, but I went to watch my DVD EEs last weekend and had to turn it off. It made me sad that I have become such a BD snob, but if I am going to spend 10 hours watching LOTR, I want it to be in the best quality possible. If I knew that the EEs would be coming out within the year, I would wait, but it looks like double dip for me.

It's probably the quality of them and the looks of course too.
I can understand even though I'm not a crazed Steelbook-fanatic or anything. :P
But I personally do not even want a Steelbook for every title.
'The Lord Of The Rings'... the ones I've seen, especially with German titles, aren't necessary.
But the collectors will take them in any way, as long as they're official Steelbooks.
If it would be some kind of clever design, I might go for a Steelbook-version of these films too.
But not just with the standard design printed on some steel cases, I don't care...

I don't know whether to like the Steelbooks for being Steelbooks or to sell them.
I think the latter.
But anyway, I'm not a big collector, but I like to collect special editions of film-releases.
I don't even care if they're cheap or whatever, if I like them, I'll collect it.
But that's me...

You can order the steelbook online now for $15. Starting March 7th, they will be in store for $5.

So what if you pay the $15 on-line as a pre-order and don't get one of the five that I hear each store is getting?

You get one in the mail instead.

And I'm quite sure stores will get more than 5.

Because you're buying the steelbook case only. No discs.

if you order online with the $15.00, that is the purchase price of the steelbook, it does not go towards the purchase price of the movies. If you preorder in store on 3/7, that's when you get the free steelbook, granted if they have enough in store for you.

Ya...it hurts to watch a DVD. We need LOTR on Blu!

Didn't I make this point a couple days ago?

Those old DVDs don't look as good as we all seem to remember them doing.

Now that we've gotten used to BDs, going back and checking out older DVDs just ruins our mmories. And by old, I mean pre-2005 DVDs.

I think the biggest difference between BDs and DVDs (besides the resolution) is the vividness of the colors (for the most part) and black levels, and I assume that all has to do with the higher bitrates that BD utilizes.

I think the biggest thing about it being on blu is the audio....that Dolby TrueHD soundtrack is going to sound inbelieveable when Gandalf faces Balrog!
