I purchased an extra replacement case and have the original cover in it.
I plan on printing out your custom sized one soon when I have time.

i never seen sanjuro/yojimbo before. how do they compare(overal quality of the films) to ran, kagemusha, seven samurai?
I'd give Amazon time. All their prices are jacked up right now. I pre-ordered Yojimbo/Sanjuro for $46.99 and I'm sure by the day it comes out they will drop the price back down. If patient Amazon is almost always the cheapest price for Criterion Blu's outside of a B&N 50% off sale.

I'm really slacking on my Criterion Blu's. A little sidetracked improving my sound system. Received my brand new Polk RTI A1 front speakers and Polk CSI A4 center speaker today. Can't wait to hear my Criterion's on them once they are hooked up.

I have the General.
But I don't have the urge to collect them all because of the lack of uniformity in cover art.
Lame, I know.

No. Criterion pre-orders usually settle at $26.99 on Amazon before they are released.

I don't think there is any doubt the Criterion prices are creeping upwards on amazon and elsewhere.
I noticed it about a week ago.
If they stay at $29 after release day I won't be buying anymore titles except when they go on sale for $19.99.
I love and support Criterion, but I just can't keep up at $27 or $28 a piece.
there are way too many other classic bds I want from all these other labels.
man I really hope this isn't true.
btw: on amazon right now "For all Mankind" is $31.49 for some reason.
now that is crazy because it was $20 a week ago, so who knows what is going on.

I sure hope you're right--prices certainly fluctuate a lot on amazon on a daily basis--
it's just that I personally have never seen all of the Criterion prices so consistently high before.
ever.

I'm so jealous.

Great collection, I'm probably going to end up going down this path, as well. Better to start now while there's still time to catch up.

Today, I ordered 400 Blows for $19.99 and Chungking Express for $24.99, and when I went back to look at them again less than 5 minutes later, they were $21.99 and $29.99. Yeah, I'm pretty much awesome.

I am sure that it is a temporary price jump. I have Sanjuro and Yohimbo on pre-order since those are absolute first day purchases...I can wait for the rest.

Ya, Amazon prices fluctuate constantly. I have a link under my favorites that goes to Amazon Criterion Blu's and check it a couple times each day. When I see a good price I buy.

I also check my "Amazon Quick Picks" page. That's another great way of picking up Criterion Blu's for a discount.

Ok, Revanche, just finished watching it. I was let down by this title, possibly due to all the praise it was getting from members here. But I didnt find it to be revolutionary or really great at anything. And the ending, its seemed pretty closed to me, I think you would have a tough time argueing that it was an open ending.

I know this will either get flack or be ignored, but a rather tame movie that does not get a purchase from me.

Well time to get back to netflix and see what criterion ill be streaming next.

Personally, I loved the film, but I can certainly see how some would not. I found the ending to be
[Show spoiler] surprising in that there was no ending, in a sense, or at least not one typical of most movies. His loss was so great that he felt the need to avenge it, which had he done so, would have been the conclusion many probably expect (myself included) or hope for. Instead, there is no final act of vengeance to close it. Like in real life, the loss lingers on.

I agree, though, that sometimes with movies expectations can be deceiving. I tend to stay away from as much information about the movies, particularly the Criterion releases, as possible, to hope for as much of a blank slate as I can get. The more I know about it beforehand, the more I make expectations which are often wrong or rob me of the point the film tries to make.
