yes, this the re-fx version. I am guessing the price will be enough to push some off and the purist most likely would not want it.

Why is it that Walmart does not count in the Nielsen/VideoScan Weekly Sales Numbers? Its probably because they dont want to be included but why wouldnt they want to, what do they have to lose?

Retailers need to report to get detailed numbers from Nielsen. Walmart probably has enough locations, they can do research on their own. I guess they don't want their competitors getting their numbers.

Can't wait to see the Spider-Man numbers for the american market. Sales has been strong here in Denmark. "Ugentligt" means weekly and "totalt" means total/SI.

I bought the boxset when it was released this tuesday. It costs $115 here

Generaly things are going really well for Blu-ray here. Blockbuster says that 10 % of the total DVD sale of "300" came from Blu-ray. Because of this Blockbuster has started renting Blu-ray from October 11th in all 55 stores in Denmark. No HD-DVD

.....and I know we are just a country with around 5 million people but anyway, it's good news

WOOT Go Denmark!!!!

This also brings up a question. If Blu-ray continues to dominate in Japan and Europe but HD DVD wins in the U.S. (we all know that wont happen but its a hypothetical question) what would that mean? Formats would be based on where you lived or would they still have to unify under one?

Very consistent with the numbers here in Norway. For september Blu-ray had a market share in HD at 93,3% and HD-DVD tailing at 6,7% (sold copies). So that seems to be much the same numbers.

Also saw a press release today regarding a large distributor for rentals (1000+ stores) that is now adding Blu-ray to their selection in Scandinavia (no HD-DVD). I'll see if there is an english language test of the article.

a disturbing question I doubt HD-dvd would be allowed to continue, (studios would still be supporting both formats) but I suppose if HD-DVD existed in North America only it'd be in and of it self "region coding" by rending itself incompatible with the BD regions :P

seriously I think BD is secured.

Friday approaches rapidly. Will we win the Nielsen's? I hope so. If not, it's 1 week out of 52 we conceed. Is that all that bad? HD-DVD will be a footnote by 2009 in any case. Pop in another BD and enjoy the the ride!

Apparently yes

Actually Blockbuster will start selling the SONY BD-P300 and some of the cheaper SONY LCD screens. There will also be Blu-ray setups in the stores to show people the benefit of high-def. Are they doing something similar "over there" ?

I haven't been to Blockbuster in a while, but after reading this post I think I'm headed there tomorrow. That would be massive exposure for blu.

On the high-definition disc front, "Transformers" was the No. 1 HD DVD seller for the week, while on the Blu-ray Disc charts the first two "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies returned to the two top spots five months after their initial release.

Question hmmm

I know this is alot of speculation but.....

I would venture to say that risidual sales from surf's up/ fantastic four that we at lease sold 5K units of our top non BOGO movie. If pirates were 1,2 on our sales charts, apocalypto was probably not far behind. They probably sold over 5k units each. Probably 20K between the 3 if not more. The rest of the Bogo titles together probably did what those did total, which probably means 40 to 50K of additional movies sold. At the very least that is an increase of about 50% at a minimum on our total sales.

I think we should be good this week (assuming the 190K ment units shipped).

OK- First, don't shoot the messenger.

We've got bad news. As the link in the post above notes, and Home Media Magazine notes, the top two selling high def discs were Transformers and Planet Terror, both HD DVD. About 26 hours to go, but beating the top two will be tough.

Also, a post elsewhere noted that HD DVD sales increased almost 69% from Q1 to Q3, while Blu-ray increased just over 20%. The numbers track, from HMM.

Double ungood.

But, all the better if we still do pull it off.

you have to see how low the numbers were for HD DVD to realize why the percentages went up so much...

numbers like that can be angled either way....but which one is the truth?..

also, the numbers that Blu-ray will be putting up as a whole will carry the sales...

not just 2 titles..

it will be close...but I'm thinking BD will have at least 15 of the top 20 movies for last week....and that's where we'll win the week when we do..
