Don't get your hopes up, in fact I'd say 98% it won't happen knowing both companies involved

And you'll pay $400+ for it

That's right I forgot all about that, there were voice double-soundalikes too, that weren't even close to sounding alike (although I think I liked the telemovie versions of the 2-part shows better). I guess they would wait for that Bryan Singer Galactica for a blu-ray (was that a real thing anyway?)

Yeah, some serious international licensing bad juju going on with that franchise. I've seen all of the stuff from DYRL to Macross 7 to the latest Macross Frontier via fansubbed torrents (Frontiers 720p mkv's are pretty good!). When Bandai Visual did the BD releases, Region A, they neglected to do any English subs, unfortunately...

Your best bet on the original SDF: Macross series (not the Americanized dub that made it into "Robotech") is the Animeigo Remastered DVD release.

I'll second the recommendation, but then, I would- my name's in the credits.

Oh it's real all right. There are certain forces who are throwing up roadblocks, best I can piece together is that there are people with axes to grind who are mad that the abomination may be sent to the memory dump like the tried to do to the real show (not Ron Moore, or any of his crew or performers).

Don't forget this is actually Singer take 2. They were a month away from shooting last time

http://www.tombsofkobol.com/bsg/bsg-desanto-01.html

Hypothetically everything will be ironed out by the time Singer finishes the X-prequel.

Regarding Ponyo's lossy JP track:

As soon as there's something I can share I will. Until that time, if lossless is important to you, buy the R3 or the Japanese disc. Yes I know the Japanese disc is hugely pricey
Is there any movement on this front, or should I just cave in and import?

When and if there's something to report I'll say something. All I will say right now is that it's not hopeless, but breath holding not advised. I hope i'll have a better idea when I get back from Japan

Jeff - Just wanted to pass this along to whoever you know at Warner Brothers. Thanks for the great Neverending Story transfer, it's one of my favourite foreign movies of all time and this is probably the best it's ever going to look and sound.

I think WB has started to make some real progress on their non-classic catalog titles. I've been very happy with the last 3-4 I've gotten. Anything as big as WB is like a freight train. They take a lot of track to stop, turn around and get up to speed in another direction, but it looks like they're getting there.

my single biggest delight with Warner is how they are now defaulting the HD track on blu-rays...

Jeff - can i ask about the rumoured re release of Gladiator? Do you think it will be released worldwide or just re released in the US? I see reference to it being released in May now to co incide with the cinema release of Robin Hood.. i sold my copy last month with i got inkling of a new release on the way and got a good price for it considering.

p.s. just asking about worldwide as it was region locked by paramount as universal released in europe and elsewhere.. .. be cool if the new disc is region free..

Cheers,
Mick

I missed this news in my obliviousness last year. I was also reading about how much of the assetts are in other hands now, and in some ways there was more of a rebranding than a crumble.

That all being said, when should I start scrambling to get the ADV anime I had been meaning to, lest I run the risk of it vanishing from all new and used sources or skyrocketing in price?

I would go for anything you want now

I can't speculate what Uni international may do. The divisions aren't exactly in synch
