I think once upon a time in the west comes pretty darn close!

Out of curiosity, did MGM/Fox use the new restoration for the USA disc of TGTBTU (and just DNR it to hell), or not?

In the review on this website it said it was based on the '2002 remaster' or something, I think?

The USA one looked fine to me, really detailed with the close ups etc, but I did watch it on a pretty small TV, and am quite new to BD so may not be noticing bad transfers yet!... This site has different reviews for the video quality for the Canadian and US releases of the films, are they actually different or just had two different people review the same film and give it different ratings? In fact, I'm sure that the video review has been changed recently, because I don't remember it being rated that low and other parts of the review refer quite positively to the video quality.

Italian release sounds good, any screenshot comparisons anywhere? no English subs, or dub either?

I noticed plenty of picture noise, so I'm not sure what some refer to as an image that's "DNR'd to hell".

Doesn't look natural or film-like at all. More of a waxy artificial appearance than anything.

The dnr is way too extreme on TGTB&TU. Numerous face shots look horrible imho. A great shame because I couldn't imagine watching the film w/out the english s'track...

The US version of TGTBTU was poor. Old 2002 transfer and a moderate upgrade to the dvd. These classic films need new transfers.

I hope The Good The Bad & The Ugly gets a new transfer!

The US release is DNR to hell and it looks horrible to me...
A shame they're calling it a "remaster".

Odd to see MGM still bothering to release something new. I don't think there's much of a chance of TGTBTU being any different, but if the other two use the same restorations as the Italian Blu-rays I will likely buy it.

True. That, Dances With Wolves and Unforgiven are in a class of their own. Then again I'm not a big John Wayne fan, so I'm biased in my opinion. Some of his Westerns could be classified in this category as well.
