This is all just hype right now. There have been talks about this level of core network speed for some time. Cisco just brought the technology to market first over a long haul. AT&T and Csco have been doing it over short runs since the about 2006/7. Also, if anyone is familiar with the underwater optical cabling paths, TAT-14 has had OC768 running over it for a couple years also. Ciena has also been demonstrating OC768 (40G) and 10GE for a while now. There are a couple other companies that also can do this, maybe Juniper and Fore Systems, too. I need to look into that.
I 100% agree that it means nothing until the "last mile" is upgraded. 100GB is right around the corner for my home though. We're supposed to have it over the summer. Last edited by Hammie; 03-10-2010 at 11:40 AM. |
