This movie was massively idiotic. I'm all for a fun dumb flick every now and then, but there's something so lifeless about these Emmerich disaster epics. I mean, it's not even the science that bugs me - I found the relationships between characters to be much more befuddling. Particularly
[Show spoiler]the death of the stepdad. The wife had a 5 second freakout, and then that plot point was NEVER discussed again. The movie ends a mere couple scenes later with Cusack and his ex-wife acting like everything was back to normal between them and neither cared the new husband was gone. Not even the little boy who idolized him had any reaction!

lol
That was what I thought, I actually knew
[Show spoiler]he would die pretty early on, I actually thought he would die by sacrificing himself in a perilous situation, but no it was just a convient accident.

Anyways, I thought the picture looked like it had a "documentary look", anybody else agree?
I have a plasma btw, with none of that 120hz crap or whatever it is called.

One thing more, the Blu-ray had an update for my PS3, I thought only games had that.
Gave me a new PS3 logo, new start up music and a glittering background. lol

Does anybody know what the Target exclusive version of this film has that the Amazon one does not? I'm wondering if it's really worth the extra $10.

Quite frankly I hated the stepdad. Why did the kids idolize him? All he did was complain about the wife being stupid enough to marry Cusack and then puss out when he was the only one capable of flying the plane. And why was Cusack's son so convinced that Cusack hated him? The stepdad was the one doing all of the complaining. The only real characterization that they gave this guy was that he was a plastic surgeon who worked on the Russian's bimbo wife and that he likes to complain.

The only thing that I found entertaining here, aside from Cusack's ability to outrun erupting volcanoes, was the WTF-ness of Woody Harrelson's performance, which feels less like he's playing a character in the movie than he got stoned and wandered onto the set.

I just picked up the 2 disc version for $14 and I have to say that this movie has some amazing PQ and AQ. The actual story was alright but the destruction was fantastic. If only for the demo material, this movie has some pretty solid replay value.

I think its PQ and AQ were top notch.
Movie was really a solid disaster flick.

Have played the Volcano eruption scene 50 times already.

I hated the movie the first time I saw it. But on a re-watch I actually found it a little more decent. Of course, it does help that the movie I saw before it was Transformers 2...
