Speaking of Japan... Anybody else catch Pacific? I was nerdy enough to watch the credits, just to confirm that, yeah, it was shot on (shock!) film.... (Steven gets his way). The CGI is... good, and I'm sure the BD will be an excellent package for those wanting to wait.

Hard to completely judge from the first episode, but it's certainly tonally in line with the exemplary Band of Brothers, and they're doing a decent job so far of once again showing the macro history through the micro specifics of the soldier in the field...

No, but after watching this clip about one of the characters (John Basilone) on NBC Nightly News, I am very, very much looking forward to it on Blu-ray………..

I guess as a mini-Spoiler alert to the series, you may want to stop watching the clip at the 45 sec. mark if you desire not to know much of anything about the main characters prior to your initial screening.

Penton, You've probably driven on the 17 mile section of I-5 many times that is known as the "Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone Memorial Freeway".

Yup, thru Camp P. - where I assume Jeff and his brother? were hitting 90-95m.p.h. in order to make it from S.D. to LAX in 2 hrs.

Hah, no it was a guy I've known since kindergarten who has authored many of the DVDs you own today Like I said, it was an approximate time Either way, 7.5 hours? And the "stop looking for Mexicans at the OC border", no laughs? (it was true though )

Though it would totally describe how my brother drives

Attention –

Whatever reviewer here ultimately does the review on Un prophète (no matter which country or Blu-ray home entertainment company has done the home media edition work), you may want to PM me prior to writing your review as I have some information in regards to the principal photography and post which you may feel valuable in forming your ultimate thoughts.
Nothing sinister here, just good inside info.

Anxiously awaiting an English friendly BD edition. The French version is a bust, but the UK is coming soon. Any word on a US release yet??

Hey Penton, did you manage to see the Sony guys on the engadget show yesterday? Very impressive tech demo for the new Sony Move controller. (Here's a snippet);

Pass on my congratulations to anyone at Sony involved with this, I think they just proved to everyone why this is miles ahead of the Wii.

Isn't it refreshing to listen to a video clip on the restoration of an old film without some preoccupation with grain entering the conversation?

Can't say but, there should be an official announcement on The White Ribbon in the NEWS section of the forum to hold you over.

Compliments are always welcomed , esp. since people from several divisions of Sony read this thread.

Too many spoilers for me so I only watched a few minutes and hope that the link will still be there after I have watched the Blu-Ray. I'd say that grain should be something that comes along for the ride so there is no need for any preoccupation with it.

And we all know that if something goes really wrong it will be all over the web in no time anyway

Default Columbia 3D Catalog Titles

Penton,
Can you tell us (without revealing actual titles or dates of course ) whether Sony has any plans for 3D BD releases of any of its 1950s 3D catalog titles?

As you know, back in 2003, the World 3D Film Expo was held at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood (Expo II followed 2 years later). Many of the 50+ features and shorts produced during the "Golden Age" of Hollywood 3D (1953-1955) were exhibited. Grover Crisp was involved, securing newly-struck (and in some cases restored) prints of most of the Columbia titles from that era, including Miss Sadie Thompson, Stranger Wore a Gun, Gun Fury, The Nebraskan, The Mad Magician, Fort Ti, Drums of Tahiti, Jesse James vs. the Daltons, and Spooks! and Pardon My Backfire (Three Stooges shorts).

I was fortunate enough to attend every showing of both festivals, and the prints (and 3D) looked absolutely stunning (especially Sadie). The stereo cinematography produced by the dual camera rigs of the 50s (Columbia's in particular) rivals, and often surpasses, that being produced today. What a treat it would be to be able to view some of that material at home in 1080p 3D!

Is there any chance that Mr. Crisp's enthusiasm for 3D and these great old catalog titles will extend to 3D BD?

Penton,

Just wondering what your thoughts are on the upcoming Cantor Exchange?

Thanks,
