I bought a Sony BD-S300 in July of 2007. It crashed and stopped reading discs a few weeks ago. So it worked a little over 2 years and 7 months. Like others here, I was disappointed with the relatively short life span of this player, especially since I paid $400 for it! I recently replaced it with a Panasonic DMP-BD65. Hearing all these bad stories about Panasonic has me worried now! If I had the money I would have gotten an Oppo.

Not only has my other DVD players had more longevity, but so does my Pioneer laserdisc player and JVC VCR! I had a Mitsubishi VCR that lasted ten years before it broke! My parents still have the one they purchased in the mid 80's!

Yeah I still have a cheap Sony DVD player from 2000 and it still plays.

I have a BD30 as well, for the life of me I can't get it to play Tropic Thunder on Blu-ray, have tried three copies and none will play. Also have had problems with it playing "burned" DVD's and other Blu-ray movies as well. I had bought the extended warranty through BB, five years from date of purchase, I plan on making it last until Panasonic's offerings this Fall, or maybe early 2011. The new BD85 is out, rather inexpensive and faster loading time and better video processors than my BD30 but I don't know if I fall for that .5 second load time they are claiming.

I have the BD65, and it's fast! I haven't timed it, but it seems like a few seconds after I press the power button, the machine is ready to load a disc into.
