Bruce: I hadn't thought of playing the discs on a different player. I was using a Panasonic DMP-BD55. I just tried them on my laptop (VAIO F-series) and the curtain calls play without any problems. This is the first time something like this happens to me with this player.
The 2008 Meistersinger DVD was released only in Germany and it doesn't have subtitles in any language (not even German). You can get a copy from amazon.de or any other German retailer. It is region 2 encoded and PAL. If you're in the UK it might be easier and cheaper to get. Shipping alone to the US is outrageous. Shortly after Bayreuth bypassed traditional labels and distribution and released this on their own (like the Met has done with a few titles), Opus Arte signed a deal with them to carry their recordings (Tristan and a CD Ring being the first releases). Hopefully Opus Arte will pick up Meistersinger as well. I understand that Parsifal from the 2008 festival was also filmed but that hasn't yet seen the light of day. |
