This thread is a bit long to read in all its glory, so I don't know if this is posted already, but while looking around, I found this in Bestbuy.ca ...

and here's the description...

This Best Buy Exclusive version includes THE LORD OF THE RINGS THE MOTION PICTURE TRILOGY and Swords of Middle-earth Miniature Reproduction with Certificate of Authenticity.

I had no idea such a thing existed (or was going to exist). Thanks for the post.

Default Thanks, Bob, for that very interesting excerpt, which I had not read before...

even though I have been practically a life-long fan, I've never delved into the letters. I think I picked up Gandalf's purpose, limitations and "prime directive" from the many other Tolkien books I have read, i.e. Unfinished Tales and The Silmarillion. Also, you can't hang around on TheOneRing.net for 10 years and not pick up something.

I think knowing Gandalf's CV lends a lot more to the appreciation of his role in the movies. Very appropriate. Thanks again.

They are not all accounted for, the lost seeing stones.
Why should such as we fear to use them?

Just feel that New Line is making such a huge mistake here by not releasing one definitive set of these films with both the theatrical & extended versions together. Marketing this trilogy of films properly could've created an explosion of success for the Blu-ray format. But as it is, they've seemed to just aggravate fans. Let's face it, the people who want to own these movies, especially on a format like Blu, want the extended versions. If anything, New Line should've just bypassed the theatrical editions and released just the extended versions...

Despite its length, I figured it might be worth mentioning, because it allows a peek into Tolkien's motivation and thought process about a pivotal character, at the time the story was introduced to the world. Also, the fact that it came from - "the Creator".

Same here. Anduril is a given, but what about Sting, Herugrim (Theoden's sword), etc.?

not too sure... I didn't start playing until 2nd ed came out, I'm a bit too young to have played Gygax's 1st ed. But one of my buddies that I used to play D&D with actually tested it with Gygax before it became public... it was a cool story to hear... I think D&D made John a little tho... man that guy was strange

I know a few guys just like that....I started playing in 1981 and still have all of the original DM Guide and Players Handbook, modules, etc (are these worth anything if they have been used?)......for some reason I always gravitated to wizards. Gandalf would be like a demi-god in the D&D world I believe.

I still have a BUTTLOAD of 2nd ed stuff that I started collecting when I was about 10... that was in 1992 so a little while after 1st ed was toast. I always gravitated towards Dwarves in the game so I think that's one of the reasons I like Gimli so much...

I'll probably end up regretting it, but I pre-ordered this from the WB Shop. I received some coupon code from them apologizing for delaying my order (although the only current order I have is for new releases in June). I put a few things in my cart to see what the final price would be, and LOTR ended up at $46.46. At that price, I finally succumbed to temptation.

After completing my order, I tried to use the code again as a new user and also on a different WB Shop account but it didn't work. If anyone else wants to try it, here you go:

KFBF-P5PG-MOYV-K4FT

Sorry to annoy all of you with stronger principles, but if it's true that we have to wait until 2012 for the EEs, I have no regrets.
