Default Burning to Blu-Ray question

Does anyone know a digital video editing program that lets you burn your video files to BD-R/RE discs? I have Studio 11 (only burns to HD-DVD and standard formats) and Adobe Premiere Pro (just burns to DVDs and other standard formats) because I don't just want to burn the video files to a BD disc to store them, but to actually have them read as a BD movie in a Blu-Ray player.

Thanks!

The only problem with the table referenced above is that it suggests that BDMV projects can only be written to BD-ROM. These projects, which include menus, CAN be written to BD-R and RE media. Its just that playability depends on the spcific player and firmware. I use DVDit Pro HD and BD-R/RE media and it plays on many first generation players with up to date firmware [I have a Sony BDP-S1). Apparently these early players were "grandfathered" and newer players (like the cheaper BDP-S300) won't play these discs till "version 3.0" physical media becomes available. All this is to help distinguish home grown content from pirated Hollywood stuff.

All this "early adopter" thrash is worth it, however, to get the phenomenonal results we see.

Here is a player list of what will work:

http://forums.support.roxio.com/inde...howtopic=20850

A final note: the table also suggests BDAV projects are practical. These projects do not have menus and do not play on ANY player I am aware of.

Thanks everyone.

I tried the trial version of Vegas Pro 8. How exactly can I burn to a BD disc from the timeline because when I try to burn to a BD disc, it's doing something with image files? I'm just not familiar with the program.

Thanks again, though.

The table is correct. The proper name for the application format is "BD-ROM AV" (which can be placed on ROM/R/RE). The term "BDMV" is actually the name of the root directory. BD-ROM AV has two modes (HDMV and BD-J). See:

Yes, BD-ROM AV (HDMV mode) but no menus.

Thanks everyone.

Does anyone know a program that does make menus? It's not that important to me now but soon I'd like to make one instead of an instant playback.

DVDit Pro HD ($499) and Adobe Encore ($799 with Premiere Pro) both support BDMV with menus.

If you have any Roxio or Sonic products on your computer you can go to the Roxio upgrade center and you can upgrade to DVDit Pro HD for $199.

Default Longevity of home-burned BDs?

I read that a burned CD / DVD will last around 3-5 yrs before it deteriorates; anyone know how long for a Blu-ray? Is it the same?

Ulead/Corel DVD Movie Factory 6+ ($80) with HD Pack ($20) makes BDMV on BD-R/RE disks and AVCHD on DVD disks with menus.

Ulead DVD MovieFactory Plus 6 HD Power Pack:

I don't think anyone knows yet. The format isn't used enough for anyone to bother doing a longevity study. Since it uses inorganic dyes, I'd expect it to last longer than 3-5 years... at least the media from better manufacturers.
