Not really. Gandalf left the dwarves and Bilbo right before they entered Mirkwood and came back right before the battle to tell the dwarves, elves and humans that they had bigger problems than each other.

That's not a spoiler is it?

I just remembered something that happened when the LOTR movies came out. There was some pinhead Harry Potter fan that said that Gandalf was a riipoff of Dumbledor. Amazing how stupid some people are.

The Hobbit - published in 1937
LOTR - first book published in 1954
J.K. Rowling - born in 1965

Probably is, sounds very important to the plot of the movie, might want to hide the parts I didn't quote. That said,
[Show spoiler]I can't wait to see the barrel rides, the finding of the Ring and the climactic battle at the end before Bilbo returns to the Shire

Nice poster! Mithrandir is most definitely involved in the Hobbit!

If you're referring to the incident with the dwarves, I was barely involved. I just gave your uncle a nudge out the door.
Guess he was lying.

Here is an image from the 1920's that many claim that Tolkien used as the origin of Gandalf. Others say he used an image from a walking tour of the Alps that he obtained in the 1910's. Somewhat older than Dumbledore.

LOL yeah some people just lack common sense. The first clue should be that LoTR books were in production long before either franchise became live action films.

They could just synthesize his voice, couldn't they? That's what I would do, one less actor to pay out of the production budget.

But that's less fun than getting a really AWESOME actor to voice Smaug... make him EPIC... like James Earl Jones did with Vader... but oh well, guess you gotta take the fun out of it for me Wolvie...

LOL not trying to take the fun out of it. Just don't think they'll give him a voice actor, my choice would be Christopher Lee, unless he gets to reprise his role as Saruman.

Alas he is Elrond?! Hugo Weaving as Lord Elrond of the Elves is one of the best things about LoTR!

Very good point... Christopher Lee could record the voice without having to travel (since he is like 900 now) and probably will not be Saruman if Saruman is part of the story. Christopher Lee could still be part of the MOVIE YAY!!!

The going rumor is that Brian Cox will be playing Thorin Oakenshield, and Tom Waits will be voicing Smaug the Dragon. Both have confirmed meeting with casting agents for 'The Hobbit'.

With the production team and budget they have in place, Smaug should be the greatest dragon ever to appear in film.

Uniting the monster-making genius of Richard Taylor and his team with that of Guillermo del Toro and his team will prove to be an unprecedented summit of creativity and imagination. I wish I had the privilege of dropping by their workshop every couple weeks to see what they are up to during this project.

If they go 3D and get a good 3-month run on 3D screens like 'Avatar' did, then this will probably become the new top boxoffice grosser.
