I have the HLT5089S Samsung LED DLP and have noticed a couple of issues. For one, I can see bowwing at the very top of the screen. But the most annoying thing to me is the actual screen of the TV. The screen seems to "sparkle" (for lack of a better word) when on solid colors that are moving or especially the skin of anyone on the picture. I have heard this called SSE (silk screen effect) and that it is common in DLP's. I have owned another Samsung DLP and never seen this before. Does anyone have similar issues with theirs? Any help is appreciated.

I have the 6187S and I haven't seen anything like this.
At the AVS forums, bowing is a common complaint. How old is your set? If it's severe, you will need a service tech to come look at it. The "sparkling" might be the rainbow affect of the color wheel. Does it get worst (or better) if you rapidly move your head from side to side? The LED engine is supposed to reduce the rainbow effect, and for me it did verses a lamp based set. Others however have reported the exact opposite. Everyone's eyes are different so I'm not surprised of this. |

but yes all dlp's have the silk screen effect reason you see it in your led version is that its set to be super bright. turn the settings off dynamic to standard and then turn off DNIE enhancement via the advanced picture menu. see if that helps |

The bowwing problem is bad, I have slim dlp's and led dlp's and I notice it alot on the new slim dlp's vs. the old ones i have around. The sparkly effect may be what the other person said turn dynamic off, but I would leave the dnie on myself.
GTsmokeya ps. I believe led's dont have fly wheels any more, that was considered a big benefit to switching other than life and color. More info on the dlp's with no color wheel: http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/hdt...-dlp-hdtv.html Last edited by GTsmokeya; 10-30-2007 at 05:11 AM. |

I have a Samsung DLP TV model HL-T5687S. I have the same exact problem. I especially see the sparkles on hockey ice. Its bad on white backgrounds. Its not so bad if you're watching hi-def channels or blu-ray. I had it professionally calibrated and that did not help. I also called Samsung back in October and they had no complaints. Now that the tv has been out a while and I found another person with the problem I'm going to call Samsung again.

The type of screen they use is cheap and will always have a silk screen effect to it, especially if you are sensitive to it like I am. I had them replace my screens and it did not help, it actually made it worse because the techs got dirt/dust in between the screens (there are 2). |

WickyWoo- When you say transmission are you talking the quality of the signal that runs from the cable box to the t.v.?

A buddy of mine who recently got LED was complaining tremendously about the sparkle problem when watching the NBA finals the other night. He said it was really bad around the jerseys and heads of the players, depending on how close the camera was to them.
For someone looking to upgrade their 2nd gen Samsung DLP to 1080p, do any of you recommend going with the most current Samsung 4th gen but with lamp still?? It sounds like between the sparkle and bowing thing with LED its really like a lottery that you don't want to win; I would much rather be stuck dealing with the condensation smudge issue on the lamp screens where all I had to do was yank the screens out and carefully clean them as opposed to dealing with a much more serious problem that could be permanent. Collector Set- Its strange. The sparkles are prevelent on white and flesh tones. Hockey ice is very bad. On a true HD picture its less of a problem. I can see it on Blu-Ray but its rare. I have had the t.v. since November and I'm getting to the point where I'm not noticing it. Next time I guess its a high end LCD.
