Maybe I should give it another try?

yeah, i dont agree on crowe not playing a believable math geek. his mannerisms (awkward walking style, rubbing forehead when nervous, slouched posture, eye twitching) were spot on perfect. it doesn't get more nerd than that. this was acting at its best. pure perfection. now, if you couldn't accept crowe as a nerd, because in your mind you always see him as maximus, etc, regardless of how well he plays a nerd, then thats different. i dont hold that view, but see how some people do (i.e., brand a particular role to an actor). crowe is just too good for me to limit him to one role in my mind.

connolley too hot? good!!!

Dead Air - This is an independent film that came on Showtime HD! I havnt seen the Crazies yet but this seemed like a low budget version of what the Crazies is! It had Patricia Tallman who was in the remake of Night of the Living Dead! Decent film for a an indy film. I would give it 3/5 Got Em!!

Rewatched ''Before The Devil Knows You're Dead''.I absolutely loved it.Great acting (especially by Hoffmann),great plot, great movie. One thing that seemed to bother me was the theme music from the movie that seemed to occur every 2 minutes (every tense sequence and such),that it got really old by the end of the movie.Overall highly reccommendable..

[Show spoiler] "i dont know what i'm supposed to say for you to have intercourse with me, but can you just pretend that i've already said all that, so we can go right to the bodily fluid exchange?" (complete authentic demeanor throughout)

-crowe's performance is among the best of the decade...proof positive that he is one of the greatest actors alive...he goes from commander of the Roman army to math geek?? are you effin kidding me?? this guy is insanely good. then throw in Cinderella man, another perfect performance. it blows my mind how other actors that can't compare to crowe are exalted to a level that is ridiculous, relatively speaking.

Agree with all. But I relate more to the Gladiator role.

"Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," Extended Edition.

Entertainment Value: 5/5 Good pacing, lots more action, strong visuals. Great stuff.

Qualities as a Story: 4.5/5 Still a decent adaptation. Strong characters and story. Picked up on a lot more details than I did before. Extended Cut includes loads of awesome new scenes, some of which really do add more to understanding the story. The only reason I don't give this a 5/5 is that I never really find the middle part of a trilogy to be the best part; it's still just part of the journey, with a resolution yet to be reached, and things are left off in a relatively ominous manner.

Qualities as a Film: 5/5 Acting, writing, directing, production value, music...it all still looks perfect to me.

Emotional/Intelectual Impact: 4/5 Strong themes, awe-inspiring visuals, some tear-jerking moments without being too sappy.

Total: 5/5 (rounded up from 4.6), still a favorite

"Lord of the Rings: Return of the King," Extended Edition.

Entertainment Value: 5/5 A little slow at first (and maybe rather frustrating toward the end), but it's still decently paced with some of the best action scenes in the series and strong visuals.

Qualities as a Story: 5/5 The characters were great and the story finally came to a decent resolution. What more could anyone ask for?

Qualities as a Film: 5/5 Perfect.

Emotional/Intelectual Impact: 4.5/5 Strong themes and awe-inspiring visuals remain. A little weepy, but not over-done. Some parts still have an impact on me.

Total: 5/5. Still my #1 favorite.

X-Men - 4/5

I have only watched it once since it hit blu, and it was a lot better than I remembered. Might watch X2 soon now that I watched part one.

Ian McKellen = pure awesome
Patrick Stewart / Hugh Jackman = near pure awesome

Cyclops should have been given a more leadership role in the film (and series...) than he was given and Halle Berry could have been better (or cast a different actress). She wasn't bad, but she was just ok. I thought Famke Jansen (spelling?) did good in her role.

I also like the story of the film quite a bit, it wasn't fantastic, but pretty good.

PQ - 4/5

AQ - 4.5/

It looks and sounds great but it just can't hang with the upper echelon of blu-rays out there.

Yeah, I think that was the problem for me, and jennifer connelly definitely is just too damn hot!
I can only see Crowe as a Alpha man I guess, but I'll try to watch it again to see if i change my mind about this.

As for Connelly being "too hot," I don't think that has much relevance at all. There are innumerable beautiful women that are attracted to or are married to less attractive men.
It has relevance to me, when I saw her I thought why isn't she modelling instead? Or why isn't she a succesful actress you know
It just didn't seem feasable to me.

They dumbed down Sabretooth to me, he just became a wild animal but I may be giving Wolverine's old nemesis too much credit here.

That's why I'm glad he wasn't exactly around too much. They could have used a cardboard cut out and it would have done just as good

The new guy/character is infinitely better.

at least you're open-minded enough to give it another go hey, if that doesn't work, then watch "Body of Lies," where Crowe plays an overweight, CIA bureaucrat, who sits on his ass all day

i can actually somewhat agree with you on connoley, as i will openly admit that while watching it the other night, during one scene with crowe and connoley, my mind thought "she's too hot for the scene"...but in the end i still thought she was a good fit. but i still dig you a bit on that Q

Gran Torino

Film: 4/5 (incredible plot, i wish there was more films like this. its too bad more screenwriters dont have the guts to write scripts like this today)

PQ: 5/5 (if there is flaws, i'm not good enough to spot them)

AQ: 3.5/5 (dialogue hard to hear, even at VERY high volume setting)

I also watched Aliens for the first time tonight.

I thought it was great, 4.5/5.
Points off for the marines being annoying early on....but
[Show spoiler] they quickly started dieing so its ok

I'll place it either 2nd or 3rd on my list of Cameron films.

Bill Paxton was pretty hard to take back then. He got so much better with age.

Very good movie and very well written. Doesn't quite make the top 10 of 2008 for me, but comes close. PQ I give a 4.0 to because there wasn't great depth or contrast, although it was never meant to look like Australia, for example. I agree on the AQ--dialogue was difficult to hear.
