Saving Private Ryan just embarrasses LOTR here...Just look at the grain structure of SPR, it's beautiful. Obviously the LOTR shot has no grain, which means DNR. Although to be fair, LOTR may have been shot with film having less grain than SPR but there still should be SOME grain.
I think the lack of grain is on purpose. LOTR was generally grain-free, even in theatres. Saving Private Ryan was extra grainy because that's how Spielberg wanted it.

If that's true, hopefully it will lay to rest some of the fears that LoTR simply didn't get a good transfer. I trust Peter Jackson to do whatever it takes to get us the best possible picture and sound on these fantastic films.

All three films had little to no grain, and any EE people are seeing (I haven't seen a single trace of EE anywhere) is because of the glowy things Jackson and Lesnie put there on purpose. I really honestly dont think these screencaps are indicative of the final product. I think we're all going to be pleasantly surprised come April, and then all the naysayers will have to eat their words. However, if I'm wrong, I shall promptly eat my own words instead

16 days! I honestly don't know if my anticipation of the only set I like more would be greater! Haven't seen them in almost 2 years, will watch all 3 right when I get them and then one a weekend with my father over 3 weeks.

I'll try out the steelbook, it's already wedged between Lookout and Lord of War in my library. Too bad the 6 disc case isn't fatter, I could use it to replace my Blade Runner case then. I just can't put into words how much I wish I could watch these movies in HD right now!

Kind of hard to complain about the quality of a steelbook that you get for free with pre-order.

I've given up trying to get one. I have been to our BB several times, some of the employees said they would be coming in. During the last visit on Friday, they said they were no longer obtainable. Therefore, any steelbook I get will be for the EE's.

Fixed that for ya, Q! As long as these things come close to looking like the movies should have in the first place, I will be happy.
