The number of A2/Ws that Toshiba will be selling at their close-out price is about 50,000 with a further 20,000 A3s made available on Black Friday.

Signs are that Slysoft have got a build of AnyDVD HD that breaks BD+, I have seen an early buggy version that will do it 2/10 times, and their hack is pretty unreliable. It isn't something that I understand fully so I can't really go into how they did it.

WB are as committed to Blu-ray as they have ever been and this will be showcased by the titles they release this holiday season.

What else is there, oh right, player price on the blu side, selling players below cost is not good. Artificially lowering prices is never good because it is exactly that, artificial and more often than not unsustainable. I would expect to see 1.0 profile players at close-out prices before the end of the year is out though.
You know it's kind of ironic that Slysoft helps people steal copyrighted works and then on their forums complain that other software makers steal their methods for breaking the AACS encryption.

THere are plenty of Chinese bootlegers that watermark their discs to keep their bootleg from being bootlegged. Also the triads that own those operations can then go kill you for stealing from them. Make no mistake, those same people are the primary customers for these products

However the conditions required for Blu production, and the "fingerprinting" of all existing lines should make mass replication quite difficult because no licensed replicator will risk losing their license

A quick question for Mr.Paidgeek:

I read your earlier comment regarding one of SONY's European ads and was wondering if you could actually consider this one as replacing the movie-collage you are running on most discs (this would be the standard ad with the Lawrence of Arabia bit):

http://www.blu-ray.sony-europe.com/p...er.php?lang=en

I've had a lot of colleagues speechless after seeing it and we are not exactly the PS3 crowd. In any event the promo above has had a sizable effect and I was wondering if you could perhaps consider it for your discs.

Thank you,

Dr.A

Question for any Studio insiders.

All of the focus lately and from the beginning actually seems to be on player prices. That's all fine and dandy as we all want players to drop in price but I personally only need one player at the moment. When will the focus actually turn to where most people spend their money, the software? We all saw how titles flew off the shelf when the media was brought down into the $15 range.

Selling bottom out prices on players at stores like Wal-mart seems kinda silly when the majority of their DVD sales come from the $5.88 and lower bin. I don't see a lot of customers going from that to the $25-$35 HD bin.

Are any Studios looking to drop the MSRP on HD titles to a more consumer friendly number? The CE's seem to be doing their part by trying to reduce the price players, but I think it is time for the Studios to step up and reduce prices on their end.

In my review at dvdfile.com, I notice a definite compromise with the sound of the TrueHD compared to the PCM on Spiderman 3.

Ok, so what's going on? Paidgeek, I'm almost 100% convinced that Dialogue Normalization *has* been applied to these TrueHD tracks. When your audio engineers told you that they wouldn't do it, were they aware that the equipment does it by default and that if they didn't want DN applied they'd have to manually reset the flag to -31?

I'm sure that the same problem exists with the TrueHD tracks on the other discs, but without the PCM to compare the compromise isn't as apparent.

Help us. What's wrong? DolbyTrueHD won't be "lossless" until it's 100% transparent to the PCM original. Nothing less will do.
paid and David,

I am just guessing here, but doesn't the TrueHD track also have a lossy DD5.1 track embedded for legacy users. I would not be surprised if the optical output for the PS3 will only send bitstream DD or the PCM2.0 signal derived from the lossy encode over the optical. Sony's PS3 team may have made the assumption that optical users will only need lossy multi-channel since the legacy optical output is bandwidth limited.

I am picking up my copy tomorrow and I have an Onkyo 805 with the PS3 over HDMI. I will be sure to compare both tracks to see if there are significant differences without downmixing factored in over the HDMI signal path.

Great question. I also watched 'Bell Book and Candle" last night and was amazed at the PQ and wondered as well when it would see a blu-ray release. I'm a classic movie buff, I also like newer films but love the older films and am waiting to see Citizen Cane and other classic films in HD. I am a neutral format guy so I already have Casblanca and the Adventures of Robin Hood in HD-DVD and just look forward to other classic films coming to HD in either format.

SPE helped out with that and it works well. It is designed to emulate the picture on a professional display.
does cinemotion reverse 3:2 pulldown need to be on to convert the 60i signal to 24p ? to my knowledge i thought cinemotion was only beign used on 480i signals. how is the 120hz converting a 60i signal to 24 with out cinemotion on? does cinemotion work on 60i signals also?

To Insiders:

Is there a bitrate requirement difference for seamless branching and seamless layer change for the branching/layer change point?

If so,why?

Thanks in advance.

I suspect your answer will be found by now somewhere on this thread........

which is the hottest thread on Blu-ray.com currently and possibly anywhere else on the internet dealing with high-def media.

I guess Citizen Kane deserves a special mention given its ranking on the AFI list.
I haven’t kept up with the latest but I think this film is still in *legal limbo* regarding its copyright and home video rights which may dampen any immediate prospects for its appearance on Blu-ray.

Turns out, Beatrice Wells (daughter of Orson) brought action against Turner Entertainment and RKO for legal ownership of the film several years ago. She lost. She then appealed to the Court of Appeals in Pasadena which this spring partially overturned the District Courts ruling, at least in regards to the home video rights issue, I believe. Since she was granted a green light, I assume that Beatrice will go ahead and sue Turner Entertainment again for video rights, if indeed she hasn’t already filed.

If you need more detail go here and look in April or May of 2007 for “WELLES v. TURNER ENTERTAINMENT CO.”

That movie was never officially announced. Therefore, hasn't been delayed. My guess, probably see it announced in Q1 2008 for the spring.

Hell, buy their good titles anyway! Show them the love that will make them join our side exclusively after they are done "analysing the Q4 results". Worst case scenario, you end up with some of their good titles in a hi-def format that you truly care about instead of having to give your money to Toshiba for the same titles in an inferior format.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but there are contraints in segments with seamless branching. There are no constraints at layer breaks.

I noticed the PCM sounded a bit better myself. I was really surprised to learn PCM is 48/16 and TRU 48/24. If anything should have sounded better it should of been TRU...

People, I know you are excited and so are we all, but pretty please keep this thread clean by avoiding unnecessary comments and chit chat. We've said this a thousand times already.

If there are ongoing speculations about something, there are always other threads about it, so please use those threads instead. Thank you
