Yeah, that does look like Thin Red Line. I'd love to finally have that film on Blu-ray and Criterion would do it ample justice. There have been so many wild stories about this production, how the original cut was 4 (or 5) hours long and Adrian Brody was originally a main character. I'm really hoping Criterion is able to address these rumors in a "Making of" or even better, include extensive deleted scenes.

There have been rumors that WB's would maybe be actually licenseing out a title to Criterion the rumors seem to elude to BADLANDS

Of course you never know. That kind of talk also always brings up a film from Ken Russell.

I can't imagine what WB's problem with that film (The Devils) is. I haven't ever been able to see it (waiting for a definitive version) but something tells me it can't be nearly as offensive as their unwillingness to release the film makes it seem. That being said, my personal preference for a Russell film would be Savage Messiah, as I recently re-awakened to the attractiveness of Helen Mirren...

Though surely the Japanese distributors will want to put out domestic releases first, and though a ton of AK has been released on Blu-ray in Japan, I think only Rashomon was a new restoration.

I'm hoping for Russell releases on criterion too, I think everything he did in the 70s deserves royal treatment. he is a filmmaker in the league of Orson Welles, yet gets little respect

The Leopard is MSRP of $49.95, as it was on DVD as well. It is a 2-BD set, just as Che was, which also carried a $49.95 MSRP.

I have a friend who refuses to believe putting films pre-2000 on blu ray will do anything to increase the PQ. He thinks since it's not filmed in HD, it can't be given a true HD release.

So I wanted to link him to a dvdbeaver review of one of the best releases to show him how much of a difference there actually is.
I thought this one was a rather nice comparison: Life Of Brian.

In regards to at least "The Leopard", if you guys pre-order from the criterion site and use the AFS code, it's only $29.95. with the AFS code still working, I took ccfixx's cue and pre-ordered the upcoming months at a pretty solid deal. Everything from may, including "By Brakhage" came out to $119. save $40 alltogether.

+1, and in addition to all of the great pre-order deals, it can even add up to a $50 gift certificate if you spend $500 over time, so its like saving an additional 10% off of all of that as well. I have completely moved my Criterion purchasing over to their site in recent months, and with their excellent service and shipping, I'm never looking back. (plus they get all the money which supports them even more, instead of Amazon etc. taking a cut.)

I don't know if you guys got the e-mail today from the CC newsletter, but it is about Kuroswawa's 100 birthday, which is today. Anyways, in the e-mail, one of the links is to Pro-B's review of Yojimbo. Nice that CC recognizes this site as a big player in the Criterion blu-ray market. Glad to see the recognition Pro-B, keep it coming!!
