Guitar Hero Lag Issue

Hey, I've been around this forum for a while, but never really had anything worthwhile to post, but like many others, I noticed a frustrating amount of lag on my hdtv with Guitar Hero III. For reference, I'm using a Sony SXRD A3000. I recently replaced my Panasonic Pt50lc13 with this tv. After a frustrating night trying to play GHIII on the sony, I moved over to the panasonic, and it worked like a charm. Determined to fix this issue, I played with my settings - to apparently no avail. However, today I switched from HDMI to component on the sony, bingo. Plays like a charm.

As many of you might know, it's a pain to switch back from one display setting to another. Any insight into why HDMI would cause extreme lag while component would work fine?

I hardly ever visit AVS due to the extreme HD dvd bias there now, but is this a more relevant issue for that area?

Isn't there a Lag Calibration option in the game? I know that Guitar Hero II had one. That might be the solution to your problem. But, I do know that both Rock Band & Guitar Hero III were having a very small sync problem with TVs at a Sony Holiday Preview Event that I went to in Toronto about 3 weeks ago. I figured that it was just because they didn't have time to calibrate them properly or something. It wasn't too bad though.

Nope, the in game lag calibrator sucks. While hooked up via HDMI, the game was darn near unplayable, even after running the calibrator several times. However on my panasonic, and on the sony hooked up via component, works like a charm.

I still want to try running video via HDMI and sound through optical, to see if that helps.

i was gonna say the same thing. It's really pissing me off.
I can still get like 95+ on expert, but it's funny cuz the parts i miss are just the straight up strumming parts. It gets really hard to follow. Probably would be easier to do without sound on.

The calibration sucks, is there any other way besides changing cables?

I'm pretty sure it's a setting issue with the TV in question, because as I mentioned, it plays perfectly on my older panasonic, and perfectly on my A3000 hooked up through component.
Since HDMI is supposed to be "it" when it comes to connections these days, I'm rather unimpressed that it isn't working as well as the older connections on two Sony devices that are fairly new technology (the PS3 and the newer SXRD set)

I used the lag calibration and it set it to 37ms. And now it's like there was never any lag. Hope that helps.

Our kids played it most of Sunday without any lag problems AFAIK - their scores were in the 90's.

Ours is the older A2000 and we are using HDMI to the t.v. and optical for the audio. Not sure if that adds any useful info or additional clues .. just throwing it out there.

Same thing happens with mine. I have the Sony KDL-40V3000. It almost seems like there need to be 2 calibrations: one that calibrates just sound and one that calibrates only video. I have yet to try the game using a connection other than HDMI, but maybe I'll give it a shot. It is just amazing how you can get all the fast notes, but miss steady quarter notes. Unbelievable.

Maybe that explains why our kids didn't seem to have an issue? See post above..

Its quite possible. Being a college student, I don't have the money for a good receiver system yet, so I am stuck running the HDMI to the TV and then the audio back out from the TV to the sound system. There must be a significant difference in delay between the video processing and the time it takes to send the sound through the wire to the speakers, and it seems they must both be calibrated to be most efficient.

My reciever has an audio delay capability if needed..can't actually remember if it's being used actually since I set this stuff up awhile ago.

this is the set up i have and it seems that i have audio lag. the video is ahead of my playing. I'm a drummer and I've been told that I have a very deep pocket when I play, meaning I play behind the beat...so I was just figuring that was my problem.
