if it's in store i'd assume you could probably ask them to give you the blu-ray packaging. if not, just return them and go get the blu-rays lol

atleast with Snow White, the DVD cover is better than the Blu-ray one..

personally I'll be going to Target to take advantage of the $10 off instantly and the additional $20 off with the DMR coupons

I haveta agree, it's really screwing around with the consumers who dont want to pay extra for standard DVDs or have no interest in Blu Ray. Period. Naturally the standard DVD editions will come out later at a cheaper price ripping off the people who ended up buying the combo pack without need of the blu ray or digital copy.

As for consistenty in DVD libraries, well I've given up on that long ago. I get my blu rays in the blu ray packaging so I know which ones in my DVD collection have Blu rays without needing to pull them out of the shleves. Heh.

Yeah I didnt do the preorder thing because I have no idea what will happen or how TRU will handle this and I'm still deciding if I even want to get the movies anyway.

The pre-order card had UPCs for both - one for Blu-Ray in DVD packaging and the other for DVD in Blu-Ray package.

But look at the disney site and you will see there is only one packaging for TS and TS2.

My TRU had Snow White in BD packaging. I also picked BD packaging for TS & TS2 on my preorder.

no, they have the same artwork, but each have two. one is Blu-ray, so the artwork designates that it's the blu-ray case, and the 2nd is a standard DVD amaray case

TS1 - Blu-ray packaging
TS1 - DVD packaging

TS2 - Blu-ray packaging
TS2 - DVD packaging

it also seems like there's going to be a standard dvd edition of the TS2 special edition in may

Both versions are also pictured in post #1 of the $15-off thread, though both sets of mockups are the same size (apparently BD size).

They're doing this exactly like Snow White--the exact same BD/DVD combo with two separate packages in the beginning (one BD-sized with "Blu-ray + DVD" and usually in the Blu-ray section of B&Ms, the other DVD-sized with "DVD + Blu-ray" and usually in the DVD section), with the DVD-only version released later. (You posted Amazon's DVD-only of just TS2; original TS is here.)

(Edit: Makes sense as TS is to CGI animation what Snow White is to traditional animation. And it goes both ways: The WDAS logo's use of Steamboat Willie is just like Luxo Jr. in the Pixar logo.)

I think the OP is just causing a panic (not purposely) for nothing. I'm pretty sure they're will have it if that what we pre-ordered.

There was more than one retailer that only carried one copy of Snow White. Costco being one of the biggest. And I heard plenty of stories where TRU handed out copies without looking since they were the same movies inside.

If all they have is the DVD cases I'll just get the $10 back and go to Target... No way would I settle for DVD cases over BD just to save $2...

And I know TRU has not done it but if they wanted to they could also charge each person that did this full price for the moive they got with the pre-order bonus.

How can they charge you $15 to get $10 back, especially when you can "cancel" by not picking up the preorder and lose only the deposit? Not to mention most of the movies bought with the $15 discount are now opened and thus non-returnable?

The ABSOLUTE worst they could do is refuse to refund the deposit--and as indicated so far, that's NOT gonna happen.

And I never said the would or should just that they could.

What they should do is not give back the deposit since it was tied in with another discount. But as was pointed out they will not do that.
This has been going on for along time in video games where if the store has a preorder bonus and you buy it you cannot return it once opened. And to think that a monetary discount is any differnet is kind of crazy on our part.
But they have deceided they are not willing to deal with the outcry over it since I think we all know it would get post all over the web that they refused to refund a deposit and not give the whole story.

You said TRU is notorious for ONLY carrying the DVD version and not the BD... Both of those links are from people who said their stores have both versions... Did you post the wrong links?...

The first one showed only DVD packaging in their store, second got minimal blu-rays, not even enough for the pre-orders... it's a risky proposition with TRUS on these as they tend to carry the DVD size because most kids want the DVD size to match their DVDs, versus a Target/BB that is geared more towards the blu-ray OR DVD

"my local TRU only had the DVD packages in stock unless your preordered- they said that they had LOTS of preorders"

They only had DVD versions on the shelf because all the BD versions were pulled for preorders... This is not the same as them ONLY carrying DVD's like your original post suggested...
