First, I separate DVDs from BDs (some are combined; in which case, ones in BD cases go with the BDs and vice-versa). Then I separate by genre and sub-genres (sci-fi, featuring space/aliens, robots, dystopian, apocalyptic, and sci-fi comedies, then superhero movies, then action (espionage, cop movies, crime thrillers, disaster), then martial arts (all mixed really), then fantasy and historical epics, and then war movies (currently arranged in order of the chronology; WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Middle-East, etc), then dramas of all kinds, then westerns (only have a few), followed by horror (monsters, zombies, vampires, occult, ghosts, Stephen King, serial killers) and comedies last. All movies are grouped together so that their case colors and types match up, more or less (digibooks are all together; it kinda messes up the genre order, but they look good together)).

Someday, I plan on making up cards or something to separate these genres.

Alphabetically. And if you don't know how to spell it, then it's probably wrong

Type of case (i.e. digipack or amaray or digibooks, if I owned any of the latter), TV on Blu not mixed with the movies on Blu, but everything in alphabetical order.

Alphabetical, plain and simple. It's not even so much that I care all that much to have them organized, it's just easier to find them. I don't think I'd ever go into separating them by director, movie studio, year, etc... The easiest way to find movies is simply following the alphabet.

Blu-rays by Studio, then color-coded/director/genre/year(depends on what looks right).

Criterions by spine number(with Criterion DVDs).

I also keep collectable or special ones in a separate shelf(Wizard of Oz, The Matrix, Boxsets)

From which country they are from and then alphabetical order. So:

French Blu-rays:
Babylon A.D.
Pulp Fiction

German Blu-rays:
The Day the Earth Stood Still - 2008

U.S. Blu-rays:
The other 32 titles.

By studio, then by production year of the movie (not the BD).

Works perfect. Plus for some studios the logos match (WB, Universal) - which I kinda like.

Anything that has a sequel is together in my collection. I also have my digibooks sectioned off on there own.

That's my method as well. By studio, because the spine art is generally the same, at least the BD logos, studio logo, etc. are. For an example, the Universal discs all have that "swoosh" thing on the bottom.

I've tried alphabetical, but it just doesn't look good. Having all the spines match up based on the studio design looks much better.

I've got a 21-shelf DVD/CD/BD bookcase and so far, I've only got enough BDs to not quite fill up 2 shelves. But after my next order comes in, the BSG set and the LOTR set will force me to open up a 3rd shelf.

Well, I've kept the majority of my films in alphabetical order, since the waning days of VHS. This trend has continued with my DVD shelf, but since I only have 1 Blu-Ray title so far, it's sitting on a box next to my TV.

My shelf is organized alphabetical, but everything I bought after it was full are just in two stacks on top of the stand.
