There is not a good reason to hold off until the DC. This will be a nice upgrade. They did not add anything that was major or story changing.

Surprised that the bd is using the theatrical version. Very disappointing imo.

Why? It's only a 4 minute difference.

I think the dc is superior, and it's the version that I currently own on dvd. I would miss the additional six minutes...

You mean additional four minutes. Both Amazon and IMDB list the DC as 134 minutes and the TC as 130 minutes. Doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me.

its not a big deal, the deleted scenes were deleted for a reason. completely needless and it takes nothing away from the movie by not having them. i have the directors cut dvd and have seen it dozens of times and if i hadnt known ahead of time that the bluray was missing those scenes i probably wouldnt have even noticed they were gone.

It's six minutes. The sequences with Doc and Wyatt dealing with their troublesome partners are the most important additions to the storyline.

Somebody already posted this link:

Fingers crossed that this release will turn out to be the longer version anyway....

I feel sure they will in two or three years.

Obvious Disney is planning for a double dip

For me, I would rather wait on the DC so I can upgrade that version from the DVD to blu-ray. I don't mind waiting. The DC is my preferred cut of the movie, even if it is only a couple minutes of added footage. Even though the upcoming blu of Tombstone will have better PQ/AQ, for the movie itself I feel it's a step backward due to the missing footage.

It's the same reason I will not be buying the first release of Lord of the Rings on blu-ray. Those are also, for now, theatrical-only cuts that will certainly be improved by HD, but I'm not buying them because I have my preferred cut of the film on DVD. I know there is a better version out there that will eventually makes it way to blu, and I am content to wait for those extended editions.

I love Tombstone, but it's not one I watch over and over, so I can certainly wait on the upgrade. It's one less thing to double-dip on. When Disney sees fit to release the Director's cut, I'll pick it up without any hesitation.

I haven't seen this movie in a long time. I doubt I'll notice the 6 min difference in the DC.

No reason they couldn't have just put both versions of the film on 1 disc using seamless branching...Here's another perfect example of Blu-ray 'shooting itself in the foot,' especially at a time when it's so crucial for the format to succeed...'Tombstone' is one of those rare films that has a massive fanbase, many of whom are outside of the typical 'sci-fi/fantasy' group that Blu-ray has typically catered to in the past. By offering both versions of the film in one 'definitive' set, a title like this could actually boost sales of players, while drawing in a vast amount of new customers!

But to only offer the theatrical version, in order to force a double-dip later, and at the same time, leave off so many bonus features that were available on the 2-disc DVD Vista series (especially the Cosmatos commentary), is going to have people avoiding this release like the plague...Bad, bad marketing in my opinion...I personally won't be bothering with this one

Oh please, people that are interested in the movie will be buying it regardless of whether or not it is missing 4 minutes and extras.

It's not definitive but it will be the best picture and audio quality the film has ever been available.

I love Tombstone, one of my top 10 movies, but to suggest this title missing special features and 4 minutes will somehow change the course of the acceptance of Blu-ray is laughable.

For the at least 12 people in the world waiting to buy a Blu-ray player to view this movie the missing minutes and extras will have exactly ZERO effect on them.

I have to say I disagree with you overall, but respect your opinions. I for one, am very interested in the movie, but will not be buying it (even though it's one of my favorite westerns)...and I personally feel that Blu-ray, with everything it's capable of offering, is really selling itself short in instances like these, which is rather disappointing.

I don't think I could listen to the Cosmatos commentary again, after finding out that he was essentially a frontman and Kurt Russell directed the picture.
