If you like Kurosawa films pickup Kagemusha on Blu.

Awesome. Now I have to try to get them to replace my replacement cases!
The cover of my "The Last Emperor" was torn when it arrived, Chad, and they were quick to send me a replacement cover. Don't fret. No reason to always put the "mad" face.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to purchase it through Criterion directly with the 25% off code? I know it's backordered right now, but I thought I read somewhere that they would honor all offers made through the end of March.

Does Kagemusha leave off an extras on the Blu-ray that were on the DVD?

Montel doesn't like it when that happens.

Heh, I know it's really not a huge deal. They even sent the cases to me priority and the package clearly stated "fragile" on it and was packed well. Guess the postal service didn't care.

Criterion's site lists all of the supplements, and for the "Kagemusha" blu-ray the only thing missing are the biographical sketches by Japanese film historian Donald Richie were left out of the booklet for one reason or another.

that will be one, as i was leaning towards that one from the start, but i decided to go for the yojimbo/sanjuro combo first. there are so many, it is going to be tough to wait and see if i can find some deals here and there.

Of course, the postal system doesn't care. When my March issue of Rue Morgue magazine came this month, the postal system provided a note with it about how they were sorry how damaged it had become during shipping. Nice, huh? Luckily for us, though, Criterion is nice enough to replace these things for us.

Ok, I'm feeling MUCH better now. UPS just dropped off another package at my door from Criterion. This one included the movies I ordered - Bottle Rocket, Sanjuro, Yojimbo, Play Time, Complete Monterey Pop and El Norte. And this time nothing was damaged.

Lots of movies to watch. All of these except for Bottle Rocket are blind buys.

These are the people who make these terrific releases possible, and they are the only ones that our community should recognize.

Finally, it means a lot that you continue to support Criterion by buying their releases - every sale counts. Remember, without your enthusiastic support, Criterion would have never moved to releasing 5 titles per month.

So, congratulations to you, the true enthusiasts!

No, a big thank you to you as well for providing your indepth analysis on the titles. It certainly has made my decisions easier in the past.

Wait, so Criterion offers replacement cases for their old, shitty covers?

Where/How do I go to get these?

Are they for all of the old titles (Third Man, Bottle Rocket, Man Who Fell To Earth, etc.)?

Yes. They offer replacement cases for all 9 paper cases. Read first page of this thread for all info. All 9 can be had for $27.50.

I just Paypalled 27.50 for friggin' cases.

I had no idea they even offered this.

Probably a bit much to spend on cases, but I'm friggin' anal and those long carboard things have never looked right.

Do they offer free shipping?

It's 29 bucks on Amazon, so it ships for free.

The answer you seek is "yes." And yes, Criterion has stated that all orders through the end of March for the OOP stuff would be honored. However, with the DVD set of "The Orphic Trilogy" Criterion has already ran out of supply and no longer offers it on their site.

Thanks. Do you think orders for titles that are backordered, such as Pierrot le Fou, will be fulfilled?
