Thanks for the info kjack.

Is there any chance you can tell us what Rev the Sigma players are? I've filled in some of the older players with Rev A but it would be nice to know about the BDP-S500 and BDP-S2000es.

Cheers.

The Samsung 1400 uses Rev. C. Don't know about the others you mention...

The BD-P1400 has the new profile 1.1 chip SMP8634 Rev. C? So it is a profile 1.1 player or not?

Since Samsung has not said it's a profile 1.1 player, I think we can be pretty sure that it's current firmware only supports profile 1.0. However, the likelihood that Samsung will release a profile 1.1 firmware a week or two before the first PiP movies should be rather high...

Sharp BD-HDW20
The BD-HDW20 is a recorder for Japan, not a player? I don´t think this is a unit for the US and EU market.

From what I've been told Samsung will not upgrade the BD-P1400 to 1.1.

I think most CE companies will go for new players rather than FW upgrading existing models. I'll be happy for others if I'm wrong though.

Looks like Panasonic threw everyone a curve and used a SoC they developed.

The pictures of 1400 at the link below show that the NAND flash (located on the bottom side) and associated HW for 256MB local storage are not populated.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...900924&page=16

So unfortunately a firmware update wouldn't be enough to make it 1.1 compliant without this storage missing inside the player...

Default What is the Difference

Hey all,

What is the difference between the Sigma SMP8634 RevC in the Samsung 1400 and the Sigma SMP8634 RevA in the Pioneer Elite BDP-95FD.

It sounds like it would be better to go with the player with the Sigma SMP8634 RevC. Also wouldn't both players have near identical PQ or is there more to it then just this chip?

Yes the Rev C chip is a newer chip. however Pioneer has been working with the chip longer and has made some software imporvements. And the Pioneer is a much more stable player at this time.

it also says that there are 4 memory nodes 128*4=512 so it acutally has 512mb of storage wich is more than enough for profile 1.1, samsung just has t oreleace fermware to unlock the features. swvader, can you remember who you spoke to because level 2 support told me they have no idea what a bluray profile was

actually it looks like its labeled 512 it says hyb25dc512800ce-5 if the memory is the four qmonda chips or if the memory is the SPANSION chip (S29GL512N10TFL01) i saw that on their website that that is a 512MB chip. anyhoo i e-mailed samsung support to see if they could answer.

You are totally confused between DRAM and Flash !!!

The Quimonda are the DDRs, of 512Mbits each (not MBytes...) and by the way, there are some more on the bottom side which you don't see...

The SPANSION is the flash, of 512Mbit, not Mbyte again... So that flash is only 64MBytes, no need to wait for Samsung to tell you that

Please help. This thread and forum, combined with manufacturer websites leaves me totally lost.

Can someone tell me what players are available in the US that are currently profile 1.1 compliant or definitely will be soon and will at least pass DTS HD master audio, other than the new Panasonic player. I would like to read reviews of the others, but I can not sort through all of the chaff.

Thank you so much!
