Agreed.

And as home theater enthusiasts that is all we want.

I would like to comment after reading it again that Ken Brown's review is probably the best BD review I have ever seen for any movie; comprehensive, thorough, fair, and it appears that he cares about the story. Excellent job, Ken.

Hmm, I actually voted that I wouldn't DD on these (I intended to wait for the extended editions), that said, I will probably wait a few months for them to drop in price and pick 'em up before the end of the year.

Why were all of the screenshots deleted from the main review?

Fact #1 - People in the "know" who have seen all 3 movies on blu state the 1st one is the worst , and the second is a little better , and the 3rd is better than the 2nd.

Fact #2 - Most poeple don't realize that these 3 movies were shot with the same equipment , same director , same crew , same sharrpness , etc , etc , etc. , in one long continuous shoot.

So - The 3 different masters were not done at equal times , or with equal care , or on equal equipment.

So - Warner Bros. continue to be the most inconsistant Studio in Movie history , they don't a flaming rats ass about quality as long as many consumers with a mediocrity complex give them their money.

So -

That's a pretty good summary of the facts, Old Bones.

People are blaming this on Super35 when all three films were shot on that medium!

The quality issues up for debate are a result of the mastering work done for the trilogy.

Also, I agree that it is PATHETIC that Warner Bros. is running damage control by prompting you guys to remove the screen shots from the review. How many other reviews of WB movies still have their screen shots posted?

Hard to dispute that one, looks like we have a new champ, a literary masterpiece!

Excerpt:
"The quality of the transfer doesn't really matter, though; viewers will be transfixed on the greatness that is Stan Helsing, particularly during the scene where a mouse finds its way up Dame Judi Dench's skirt."

That's what I call an honest review. Thank you so much Ken.

But what happened to the screenshots?

Where'd the screenshots go? The ones that were up looked great minus the Bilbo and Gandalf one. What gives? Legal issues?

Warner told them to take them down.

They said they'd send along some studio approved screenshots to use.

Happened several pages back I think.

Actually that is not right at all about Fact 2
Fact is FOTR has always looked more soft then the others. Even Ken said that. And you neglected to tell that in your facts
Actually warners Blade Runner looks stunning on Bluray and Terminator salvation is also a stunner they have done many great transfers

FACT everyone seems to be leaving out: these films didn't look all that great theatrically. TTT will NEVER look like Attack of the Clones which came out the same year.

FACT - all of the films were digitally processed and color graded using early techniques.

FACT - Saying it was a "continuous shoot" is disingenous: the postproduction equipment evolved on each film.

While we are considering "what could have been", as far as the quality of the TE release, here is another lost LoTR movie opportunity that I read about in "The J.R.R. Tolkien Companion and Guide" by Scull and Hammond:

"In the late 1960's the Beatles planned to make a film of The Lord of the Rings, with themselves as Gollum (John), Frodo (Paul), Gandalf (George), and Sam (Ringo), but were unable to purchase the rights."
