Oh, I didn't know they did Blu-ray too. I know they do DVDs that are Russian audio only to combat piracy over there. The stills look soft, but not that bad. The process is telecined where it's taken from a film source. They put out the nice clean copies of the film when the world pretty much the rest of the world gets it on Blu-ray and DVD.

You mean Soyuz-Video? Yes, they do DVD's and Blu-rays but both are pretty bad. I didn't buy this Blu-ray (and won't) but judging by the screenshots (you have to see this one too) contrast is pretty bad. Lack of detail is also upsetting.
But it's quite good compared to Soyuz's release of The Box (comparison between German and Russian Blu-ray: German vs. Russian, German vs. Russian).

I meant in general about studios releasing movies early in Russia. I don't know what studios are over there. I'd like to get some of these but I can't find a Russian website that ships to the U.S.

Yes, and that's a very bad trend because studios can't get normal transfer in 1-2 months after release in cinemas and do telecine.

My ultimate extra for this film would involve Martin Scorsese doing a Watchmen style presented commentary thing, and he'd stop the film every time a reference to something else popped up (The Red shoes, early-Fuller, the Mabuse flicks, Welles' films etc), and explained said references. Granted the film would halt almost constantly, and the flick would last for hours, but it would be amazing. There was just so much going on in that film, I truly loved it.

Yeah, I've tried from there but no luck. Luckily, in Thailand this happens too and the studios do it there too. In the past, I've picked up Speed Racer, Horton Hears a Who, AVP:R, and Babylon A.D. about a month after their theatrical release.

This is definitely a first day purchase for me as well. The film did fairly well but I would have expected that word-of-mouth would have elevated its box office a bit higher. It's a terrific film—don't pass on this one if you haven't seen it. A definite "blind buy."

Shutter Island is Total Recall set in a 1950s Alcatraz-like prison island for the insane.

the special features are interesting on Shutter Island...

[Show spoiler]they seem to dissect every single oddity in the film, kind of telling us how they want you to see the film / get the ending they intended, doesn't really feel very "open ended" but i guess it still applies.
kind of odd.

Dude, thanks.

Then I'll steer clear away from watching the extras.

Just watched it for the first time. I loved it. The trailer seemed to give a lot away, but it doesn't take away from the impact of the film, and considering that this is Scorsese, everything needs a second thought. Nothing is as simple as it seems. I rented this, but will surely buy it.

On a side note, it was fun picking out all the locations. The island used for the arrival on Shutter Island is a creepy, supposedly haunted island in Boston Harbor. My friends and I camped there as kids. We jumped off that pier and swam back to shore (scary!). I had what I thought was a paranormal experience, but to this day I don't know if my mind was playing tricks on me. I even wrote a feature length screenplay to take place entirely on this island. Looks like someone beat me to the punch hahaha!

Also Teddy's Cabin is located in a state park where I go hiking every weekend. All I can say is the set-dec team was fantastic!

Creepy coincidence... I just left Medfield state, one of the principle locations in the film. Had to install a computer (for work). Weird.
