I Just got my ps3 back from sony! They seems to have replace the blu-ray drive and a diags cechl/p01 mcb which I have no idea what it is... But it must be big enough because the ps3 think its a new one so I've lost a couple of my backup files for no copy...

Well I don't want a replacement so I will pay more to have mine fixed, currently it's still working but I fear it won't be long before it goes. I have to format part of my 1 tera external to backup my hard drive before it goes.

Yea, I figured this out when I tried borrowing my brothers PS3, just another reason to pay more to get my system back.

By that do you mean paying more to someone else to fix it or can you pay more to Sony to guarantee you get the same one back? Mine recently died and want to make sure I get the same system back so I don't lose anything.

If you meant sending it to some other place to have it fixed, what is the name of the place since I might try to do that with mine? Edit: Actually, is it the person listed on the first post that is going it?

Sony, that's who I called when I started having issues they told me my options and while I'm not happy about it I will get over it.

PS3 got YLOD last week. Gutted!

Found Gilksy's video's and manual and thought what the hell nothing to loose. Purchased a Heat gun for £20, got some Thermal paste and some tools and set to work.

An hour or so later and Hey Presto! PS3 is back up and running.

Gilksy you are a legend!

Alright, here's my dilemma and question.

I have a launch 60gb that I haven't backed up in a while that just got YLOD. If I send it into Sony I'm not going to get the same system back am I?

If not, my question is this. I replaced my HDD with a 500gb, and will send it to Sony with the factory 60gb, thus my saves are still safe on my drive.

BUT if they send me a different PS3 the saves are going to show up as corrupted because they're associated with the serial of the PS3 right?

I might be way off base but the point is I have no clue. I want my PS3 fixed, and I want it fixed right, but I also want to make sure i'm not going to lose my saves.

I don't want to do the YLOD fix if Sony is going to send me mine back, but I will if they're not.

*I posted this in the fixes forum, but I'm really impatient at the moment, so I was hoping i'd get more traffic this way.

I guess my most basic question is this.

If I come over to your house, take out your HDD and put in mine what would happen? Would there be any formatting, error or corruption of any kind? Or would the PS3 just think the drive belongs there and everything would work out perfectly.

I'm not exactly for sure but I've read where someone says once you put a harddrive in a ps3 it formats it. So all your saves would be wiped if it wasn't the same ps3.

I'm not sure..maybe when you call customer service you can ask them if you'll get the same PS3 back..it would suck if they gave you a gimped refurbished PS3 back

I've sent 2 dead 60gb systems in to Sony and both times they sent a different unit back to me, so I think your chances of getting the same PS3 returned to you are pretty slim.

thanks. I hope it all works out. Having a PS3 for 4 years then losing 4 years of saves would suck!
