Nope, remembered your nonsense screen name from that thread, thought it was silly that you were defending what were obviously large problems with the transfer.

Wasn't really surprised that you were doing it in this thread.

Seems like a trend.

Mine's coming Friday as well... I just got the confirmation email today.

Actually I ordered the trilogy and the animated Lord of the Rings as well. I know it is strangely put together and abruptly ends in the middle of the story, but I still remember seeing it at the theater when I was a kid.

An interesting contrast; you should probably watch the Bakshi film first, if you don't want to be underwhelmed.

Do you have the set?

Also hoping for the EE to be better

Its also pretty damn weird that some say the PQ is impressive like this guy:

It was that impressive.

and some say its definitely good like Adam and Paul i think also. They say its not as bad as people say it its. Really weird

I am still debating on whether or not I want to buy this title. Somehow, I feel I will break down and buy it.

I would. It has its problems, but it's still worth picking up IMHO

Ken I have a 46 inch LCD TV would I notice the DNR and the rest of the problems? Just to let you know I thought Star Trek looked fine if that helps.

I have the discs and I have a 46" and I can tell you they all look far far better than the DVDs (yes, even Fellowship!), in fact I thought a large majority of Fellowship looked great! Only in certain scenes was DNR totally obvious, mainly in Bilbo's house and in Isengard with Saruman and Gandalf talking..

Of course with >50" you will really start to notice the problems bigtime... but for <50" no problem!

You'll probably notice it, especially since you'll be looking for it. Whether it will bother you is another matter. For me it was a distraction (particularly during the first hour of FOTR), for others it will be a negligible offense. That being said, the DNR is just one of many issues I had with FOTR. Each issue was relatively minor (yes, even the DNR in all but twenty or thirty minutes of the film), but taken together, they affected my impression of FOTR quite a bit. You probably won't notice the DNR as often in TTT and ROTK, but it may still draw your eye when it acts up. Thankfully, their transfers aren't subject to the other non-DNR issues FOTR suffered with.

Honestly though, anyone who loves the films will shrug it all off after stewing over it for a few minutes. Like I've said, they still look significantly better than their DVD counterparts, FOTR improves over the course of the film, and the audio will help take the sting out of any FOTR instability issues or Trilogy DNR problems that arise.

That being said, I'm sure this thread will erupt on Tuesday. In one corner, those shouting: "what's all the fuss about? These look fantastic! DNR? What DNR?" And in the other corner, those screaming: "See! Look how bad some of these shots are! FOTR looks like a third grader scribbled it onto my TV!" Who's right? Everyone. It's all subjective. Personally, I hope people really enjoy the set. I have my complaints, but the moment my review was finished and my job was done, I found myself enjoying three of my favorite films in semi-gorgeous high definition

^ True, but some people just notices such issues more then others as well. I can't wait to see it on my 92"screen and hope the problems aren't all that obtrusive (unlike Gladiator which I prefer watching the dvd of).
