I notice film damage often on films that get 5/5 for video quality. Which is fine, as it adds to a film like presentation to me. But DNR as bad as gladiator or patton is unbearable. The Lord of The Rings bar one or two shots I have seen is just bearable to me. For most films I would just pass, but this is lord of the rings. Which I cannot pass on.

I think we need another poll.

I think once the price drops to $49 or $39 - I'm betting most of the people who are waiting for the EE will cave in and by them.

I think most will buy it this year, once the price drops (probably Xmas time).

I mean, how the heck can someone wait another 2.5 years. And that depends on the Hobbit coming out Dec of 2012. Eek!

I have my TE DVD's trilogy on ebay for 7.99 (yikes - paid $60 for it) and will put on my EE DVD's and hope to get $25 to $30 for it. So that lowers the cost of buying the blu's now. And I'll ebay the TE blu 6m before the EE blus come out.

Those of you on the fence -- you know you will get them this year!
:-)

I think Future Shop wil lhave the set at $49 on Tuesday, just for that day. I have seen a few TV spots in French and the price is $49.

There is a deal where you can trade in two video games (minimum trade in value of 9.99) and you can get either the regular or steelbook for free. This is at Future Shop.

There was also a price error for 18.99 and they actually honored that. So people who ordered during the price error, will get the whole set for 18.99.

I believe it will be a three day price until Friday of next week and then they will jack up the price.

Default One Blu-ray to rule them all, well sort of.

Well i recieved my copy of the "lord of the rings" Blu-ray boxset yesterday,i live in the u.k. and i only ordered it on monday from "Movietyme.com",so how quick was that by normal post !!!.

As there has been a lot of talk about the picture quality of these Blu-ray discs,"The fellowship of the ring" in particular,i thought i would give the theatrical Dvd editions a spin,as i have not watched these movies in ages in fact the last time was on my sony 32 inch lcd t.v,since then i have built a dedicated cinema room and have a 1080p projector and a 108 inch screen.

Putting the "Fellowship" on it's funny how you remember things to be much better than they actually are,the opening scenes right upto the first view of the shire, are very soft, and have a real haze like quality to them i assume this was the director wanted them to look dreamlike,in fact the first movie has quite a processed feel to it,compared to the later movies.I looked at all three movies on my Pioneer BDP-09FD upscaled to 1080p/24fps,i did this to have a comparison before i looked at the Blu-ray discs.

So it was with a little bit of apprehension i put the first blu-ray in my player, and was pretty relieved to say it was very good,in fact if i had just ordered these discs without seeing any review's,and looked them over as usual,i would be very surprised to see the reviews being posted,in particular the negative ones. The Blu-rays are a big improvement over the Dvd's in both terms of picture and sound,o.k i would have prefered the extended editions like everyone else, but as these are a long way off these discs are a very welcome edition to my collection.

I do think however a lot of negatives stem from the fact people are upset about not recieving the extended editions they wanted in the first place, and people seem to want every Blu-ray disc to be somehow perfect, but in a real word some movies can only look so good,i mean "Fellowship" was always the worst looking of the three movies on Dvd and at the cinema,so why would this change when it was put on Blu-ray?.People and reviewers seem to overlook the directors choices when shooting each individual movie, and how this will effect any transfer onto Blu-ray,i want to see the movie as close to what the director intended, but on the Blu-ray discs 1080p resolution.

In the end i was glad i made up my own mind on this boxset, and did not get my mind made up for me,in saying that of the four reviews i always look at ie "Blu-ray.com" "Hidef digest" "Dvd town" and "The digitalbits",two give the set very good reviews, and two say it's only o.k but still recommend you pick it up.

I would urge everyone to check this set out before buying like "The digital bits" review says, and make up their mind based on watching the films, not what someone else is telling them.

What if it turns out that the EEs are no better? Then you will have missed seeing the TE LOTR for nothing.

I just went to Futureshop and the price NOW is 49.99. I don't understand what you two are saying here. There "was" a price error of 19.99. But then you say it will be a 3 day price until Friday of next week. And if I get it from Futureshop and ship it to the U.S. is the current price of 49.99 in US dollars? And what about shipping?

I am not sure what the thing is. I only saw a TV spot in French about LOTR and that Future Shop was selling them at $49. A lot of times for Future Shop that is sometimes a deal for the Tuesday and then they jack the price up. I have not paied much attention to it cause I am not byuing these, I am waiting for the EE

Have the EEs ever been shown on TNT, TBS, Dish or whatever, in HD?
