Default What can I do?

I, and I'm sure others on this forum are upset that the war has gone on as long as it has, and with HD-DVD trying to fight back Kmart going exclusive, I don't have anymore money to spend on BD (no job) what can I do to help further BD in this format war?

I didn't realize Kmart's were even that big anymore. I wouldn't consider that fighting back; I would say more of a desperate attempt at prolonging this war. It isn't good news, though.

Do blu, and spread blu!

Show people who are considering it the quality of Blu-ray. Convince them that they need to get addicted ASAP.

Realize that you are an early adopter and these things take time. There is nothing you can do.

The Beta/VHS war went on for years. We're just barely a year into this war.

One easy thing you can do is petition the managers of all the electronic stores...say how much difference you think making bluray endcaps, promoting blu ray with signs and sales, setting up displays to contrast bluray and DVD disks etc etc.

Especially at smaller electronic shops, managers and sometimes be sensitive if customers make such requests.

Also just try to sell as many people as you can on it...especially if they have a ps3 and arn't buying movies

First, I'm very sorry to hear about the job situation. Is this a recent development? What you can do is TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW THAT WILL BUY YOU CHRISTMAS GIFTS TO GET YOU BLU-RAY TITLES... and, buy Blu-ray titles for those you know who own Blu-ray players for Christmas (that is, if they are people you will be buying for despite your current situation).

Because its the truth.

He can do everything everyone is saying, but its not going to end this. Unless he's a billionaire (which he has already said he's not), all the companies involved in this have far too much money invested to just give up.

what conditions must be met for the other side to give up? what exactly will mean the war?

No, it doesn't surprise me because every single one of your (now 23) posts have been either pro-HD DVD or countering somebody else's pro-Blu-ray assertion. Every single one.

Of course you advise the guy to give up.

Nothing's going to be over before the holidays. There's a number of months left of this minimum.

After that, its going to depend on sales or possibly lost sales for a studio. And when you consider a title like Transformers sold 8.8 million DVD's, the number of HD DVD's it sold is insignificant. Even if it was a dual format release, the High Def numbers would still have been insignificant. If the studio makes $10 a movie, they made 88 million in DVD sales. They made 1 mil in HD DVD.

When studios start seeing titles selling in numbers that mean millionS of dollars, then I think we might see things change.

I never said to give up. I simply said its not going to make a difference. If he loves blu-ray, then by all means tell friends about it. I know I do, but I also know its not going to end the war.

And I don't visit message boards to make posts that simply agree with what people are saying. I usually only post when I can debate a topic. I love my blu-ray's just as much as I love my HD DVD's and vice versa. Unlike many, I just don't see blu-ray being superior to HD DVD. If they look and sound the same to someone like myself (a high def enthusiast), how do you think the average consumers are going to view them?

I am more for HD DVD, simply because of the whole profile issue (I think blu-ray was released over a year early), plus I like combo's and the idea of twins. But my posts are not so much pro-HD as they are simply truthful.

Well, here's what I did. I took a break for a couple of months. Last July when I needed to switch jobs and my bank account was low, I stopped coming to this forum (and the internet itself for that matter). In doing so, I missed the whole Paramount annoucement, the formation of the Blu Bloods, and the apparent explosion of members of this site. I also gave myself the time to rebuild my bank account and gave myself time to get away from this silly war and all it entails. And I was able to spend more time enjoying the collection that I did have at the time.

Does that make me less committed to supporting the BD format? I do not think so, but I guess others might argue that it might. I guess it might seem extreme to just take a couple of months off like that but for me, it is too easy to want and run out and buy a movie after spending time on this forum. So that is what I did. And I don't feel bad about it in the least!

And those are my 2 cents....

I think wal-mart should go all out bluray in retaliation.
A: we'd auto win
B: Kmart would die when it turns out no one'll buy their cheap shit

Here's a thought. You COULD get a job...

There should be more important expenses than HD media anyways.
