I only think in PHs (Picture Height)

I can't believe this day has come; feels like I've been waiting for this trilogy to hit Blu Ray forever...getting no matter what.

Went to Walmart in hopes of getting it at midnight. No such luck, plus they had it priced at $69.99. FAIL. Oh well, I managed to nab Casablanca on blu-ray for $15, so it wasn't completely fruitless. Guess I'll have to wait till morning to get my copy at Best Buy.

Personally, as far as the TE vs EE debate goes, I'd rather have BOTH than just one or the other.

Got my copy at best buy, midnight. For an appetizer, I watched some scenes I'm familiar with.
FWIW, I'm really glad I bought it. PQ is not even nearly as bad as I thought. In fact, I thought it was pretty good, even on FOTR. SQ is excellent!!!

I think I'm going to come too, you know on a set like that you'll be able to see everything crystal clear, besides I won't have my own set until Wednesday.

We finished with Return of the king last night... heavy weekend of rings action... fantastic films.. and i loved every minute of the blu-rays.. the picture quality and audio are fantastic.. for anyone in two minds about the release... i'd say go for it.. you wont regret it.. i dont think i could watch the dvds after watching the blu-rays.. though i did long for some of the extended scenes....

We know these films will be "remastered" multiple times just like any other movie on any other format ever. Even if it isn't because of complaints... This is just the first release.

Kind of frustrating because Star Wars takes YEARS, but after it comes out, a new edition of the trilogies comes out every year it seems. It's just people like us who can't wait for the ultimate set have to "suffer" because it's not reference-like, mind-blowing quality.

Just think, by the time SW or some other big title comes out (Indiana Jones!), LOTR will hopefully by that time be revisited by the studios. Maybe it'll be the EE's, who knows. But it will be out for people to get because imo it's inevitable.

PQ looks good enough for me and AQ alone is reason enough to upgrade imo. When we get the EE's, this set will be perfect to lend out to friends or to watch with someone who isn't a diehard fan.

Yeah I just came back from Wal-Mart & their price was $70. I will order it from Amazon before I purchase it at that price.

Can someone that has the Blu Ray post pics of the packaging? It looks like there are 2 single sized Blu Ray cases & I am curious how they fit 9 disc inside (I hope they didn't stack discs on top of each other).

Lowry does amazing work, I wish they could afford to put every movie through that process.

It's been talked about on this thread a bit but it's 5.1-ES, like the new Toy Story discs.

The PS3 will display "DTS-HD MA 6.1", while those with "DTS Essentials" decoders (the majority of the market) will only display something like "DTS-HD MSTR 5.1"

The original audio tracks were released theatrically in Dolby EX.

The back says "DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1". Certainly it's not 5.1 when it says 6.1...you'd hope.

Went to my local WalMart (fun!) this morning to pick this up. I get there and can't find it anywhere. I ask the lady who acts like she's never heard of Lord of the Rings. She looks it up in the computer, barely able to punch in the keys with her 3-inch long fingernails. Says "sorry, it's only in limited stores," then wanders off.

I'm literally cursing as I walk away. (I'm busy all day and wouldn't be able to get to another store until later tonight -- so I wanted it this morning).

As I get near the doors, I hear a woman yelling and then a couple guys yelling, and I turn to see them all yelling at me. She found it! Found a whole stack of 'em. Price - $69.00. Ouch. I asked if they pricematched, and she dug out and looked through several Best Buy and Target ads until she found the right one.

Walked out with it for $63.89, and a lot of appreciation for this particular WalMart employee.

Excited to watch it tonight.

By the way: I like that the box is sturdy. Not flimsy by any means. I like less that the 3 digital copies are all in 1 BD case, while the 3 films and 3 bonus discs are in another. I would have much rather had 1 case per movie with its accompanying bonus disc and digital copy. Minor gripe.

You should've price-matched. Mine also was $70, but I pricematched with BB and Target (both have it for like $59.97) and walked away for $63.89.

The "proper" viewing distance is whatever you prefer. Sit where it looks good to you.
