According to the reviewer of Blu-ray.com it is, according to Diesel who has seen it says it is, Digital Bits gives it a lower PQ rating than the other two, Highdefdigest's review also says it is inconsistent.

So far reliable people says it is inconsistent, if you could choose between a brand new DI which would allow FOTR to be uniform in terms of PQ and be as good as the other two or the one that is available now, which one would you rather want?
In other words you haven't seen it either.

I could say that about any number of films tho. The fact remains, we have a less than perfect edition, that for all intents and purposes is great. The word "inconsistent" is being banded around here like some fancy buzzword suggesting that the transfer is constantly fluctuating between amazing and evil, which it doesn't. For the most part, and to most people its fine, or even spectacular. Theres no point hypothesising about it, it exists as it is, and no minority whining will change that.

Please answer the question put in bold, stop derailing what we're actually talking about.

We are talking about the inconsistent PQ of FOTR, again please answer the question.

You laugh at me and at the same time you're vaguely suggesting you'd want a brand new DI for FOTR.

When even IGN takes note of the flaws and lackluster presentation of Fellowship you know there's something going on.

I don't know what certain people here are trying to accomplish... do any of you actually think Fellowship isn't seriously lackluster?

If it gets a new DI and ends up looking [much] better, and hopefully it will, won't your endlessly posting of the same talking points about this release end up looking odd? What will you say then?

Amazon just raised the price to $63.99.Hmmm.Sorry,until they show me that the EE's are coming out on blu I am not buying. And based on some of the reviews on here I kinda don't like what I hear.Besides,I have all three LOTR Platinum Series Extended Edition Collector's Gift Sets and I love them and they're still in their boxes that it came with so it kinda adds that special effect to it.I also like the box that holds the dvd's.So I'm sticking to what I have.

They may have not seen the actual blu-ray yet, and thus their conclusions are just based on other people's opinions and screenshots.

BUT, their assumptions/conclusions based on that that the quality of FotR is inconsistent are CORRECT.

Now, some people's assumptions of the severity of that inconsistency is incorrect (imo), but that is up to each individual's eyes to determine how inconsistent it is once they actually do see the blu-rays for themselves.

In my humble opinion, it is not a massive shift from GREAT to TERRIBLE at any given moment. BUT, it does shift back and forth between GOOD to MEDIOCRE and then to sometimes VERY GOOD throughout its 3 hour run time.

The other thing I will point out is I dont have to watch this to know that the blu ray has been tampered with as far as DNR which the HDTV vs blu ray shots clearly show to my eyes..........it is obvious. Considering these came from a very reliable source (again from my own experience with these individuals over time), and are backed up by people such as Ken, Dave, Xylon, various posters on this and other forums who have actually seen it, I feel I have every right to comment.
Bill Hunt,DVD tower, various posters here, gave a good review! why not bring those up? Not to mention that YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THEM!

If we all just accepted what is obviously a half ass effort as far as a transfer like you are doing, we definitely wont get what these and many films deserve. Why bag on those of us who are just trying to get the most out of what these films could offer? Dont you want these films, and others to be the best they can be which FotR is CLEARLY not (sorry, I dont have to view it in person to make this claim from everything I have seen and read)?

Sure, but why are there so many 3/5 type reviews as well? If this was truly a great transfer, there would be VERY little debate on that, but that is FAR from the case when you have well respected reviewers/individuals claiming otherwise AND providing evidence for these claims.

Thumbs down Pass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like the first one okay, but the only one I love is the 2nd one, and I loathe the third. So why would I buy the other two, especially when they could have put out the EE's and probably made the first one look better? I'll pass, especially for $63.99. I have The Two Towers on DVD, and it'll have to do.
